p.s. Does anyone have advice on what we can do NOW to prepare for when the NOA2 comes, since it seems to be right around the corner!? What can my fiance prepare ahead of time - before getting packet 3?

Go to the embassy website where your fiance will be interviewed. They should have a list of documents that need to be collected. You should start preparing your I-134 and its supporting documentation...

I'm new here so please bare with me. Or is bear? Anyway, what is this "touched" thing you all can see at the USCIS website? My fiance and I sent our application in and got our NOA1 back on July 21, 2011. I've signed up for updates at the USCIS website, but it still just says "Initial Review". I don't see anything about them touching our case. Is that a bad sign?

Welcome to the VJ family -or- as we like to call it... The Waiting game :)

The "touch" you're refering to is on the USCIS.Gov site. Next time you log onto your case, look to the bottom. You'll see a date of last activity on your case. If it changes, you possess a "touch".

Touched means pretty much nothing and don't be upset if you never a touch to your file. There are many people who have approvals in hand that never saw a changed date of activity on their case. The website is poorly designed, and not updated very often. Email and text notifications are pretty much hit or miss - you should never depend on receiving an email or text notification and typically you'll open your mailbox one day and presto - the NOA-2 is waiting.

Good luck in your journey and feel free to ask questions along the way.

Thank you for your reply. I've just been lurking around and reading mostly here. There are a lot of good tips on what to expect next. We have an attorney, but she won't really prep us for the next step because she says she doesn't want us to jump too far ahead. I think we could have filed for this on our own at this point, but we'd already paid our non-refundable money.

I've noticed that quite a number of couples who filed and got their NOA1 around the same time we did have recently received their NOA2 from the VSC. We're keeping our fingers crossed. Good luck to all of you!

Hi Donna, welcome!

I also received my NOA 1 (hard copy) on July 21st and still no NOA 1. It really stinks to see others who have filed after you and have already received an NOA2, but I guess that's the nature of the beast. We will keep you company while you wait.

The letter that came with my NOA1 said the processing times were 5 to 5.5 months at VSC, so I really wasn't expecting it before then. Then when I began to see that people were getting them much sooner I got all excited. I'm trying not to get too excited because I know that the wait can be longer. :) I keep telling myself not to expect anything any sooner than 5 months and if we get the NOA2 before then that would just be an early Christmas present.
