Hello everybody...

Why does this NVC and "case number" thing seem so cloudy? I need help please. I have talked to 2 different female operators from NVC. The first one was very short and blunt with me, telling me that my petition hasn't been there yet... asked me when NOA2 date was. I told her and she said "yea it usually takes about a month for us to receive it after approval. I call today... different operator. She was much more friendly, blah blah blah... She asked me if it said in my approval letter, that it'd be forwarded to the consulate or to nvc first. I told her, directly to the consulate. She said so yea, it won't come here, it'll just go straight to the consulate. You need to keep calling them for your case #. I asked her "Are you positive?"

O: Yes, didn't you just tell me that's on your letter.

M: yea, but I've heard different things.

O: yeah you need to contact the consulate. Do you need their number?

M: No I don't need it... my fiancee can contact her embassy about it can't she?

O: yea she can

Now, Carolina, from what she reads/ others' timelines... it's very fast for Brazil k1 petitions to go to nvc, and to the consulate. Do I believe the 2nd operator? I don't trust any of them really. I thought about calling again tomorrow to hear what a 3rd person says hahaha... But if it's at the consulate already... Won't DEPARTMENT OF STATE, DOS, know?

Thank you for any input. Best wishes to everyone.

Matt

The first person was correct. It is taking around a month for cases to be received at NVC. All cases do go through NVC.

Keep contacting them until you get a case number with RDJ.

You can use this to contact the consulate for the interview date. Rio is averaging 2 months for an available date. Good luck to you in your process.

If I were you, I would call them again. But I am almost positive that the first person is correct. It only took 3 days for me to get my new case number (RDJ), but I have noticed that it taking longer for them to process that. I checked some other timelines, timelines from people who got their NOA2 after I did, and the difference is HUGE. I have see people that waited a month until they hear something from NVC.

Good luck! :)

I would call and email the NVC.

I called one day and was told "we don't have it, wait" and the same day I got a reply to my email (which i sent a day before) an hour later giving me my case #.

Call maybe every other day or several times a week and email once a week around wednesday.

NVC though seems to be either processing them slower or not recieving them in a timely manner as of late.

I got an email from the consulate saying that still no petition there, so we'll keep calling NVC and DOS until we hear some solid answer from them and get the RDJ. So far it's good, we're just trying to figure out what's the right procedure.

Thankyou guys for the replies, obrigada

The correct procedure is that you will get a letter from Rio stating to go to their website and follow the directions there. No K1 Visa goes directly to the consulate. I know that it says that on the NOA2, but it is just a governmental oversight flaw. Everybody's NOA2 says that. However, it most definitely goes to NVC and it does take longer than it use to. To get valid information just wait 1-2 weeks and call (toll-free) the Visa Specialist (Department of State) in Washington D.C. Call 202 663 1225. Press Option 1 then Option 0 to speak to a visa specialist. (Do not waste your money calling the Embassy). They will tell you when your case was mailed and when your interview date is.

Then you need to look at this link and prepare everything from there.... that is what th eletter youreceive will tell you.

Link to Consulate website with instructions and forms.

You will need to send to her, or take to her, your affidavit of support with the last years federal tax return and letter from your employer. All the other forms will be generated or filled out by her in Brazil. Make sure to read the instructions and follow them to the letter. Everything is there that you need.

Boa Sorte,
