Hello everyone,

I've been searching to find whether this form is still required. We just received our NOA2 last week and I've been gathering info. I have this link, http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/k_instructions_package_may09.pdf, where they speak of the DS-2001. But when I refer to the US Embassy's website, I click on their packet 3 link and I have this, http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/k_visa_packet3.pdf, which doesn't mention the DS 2001. Which packet 3 info is current? I've read that some have sent the DS 2001 in with the DS 230 Part 1, and maybe this wouldn't matter. I've also read that it's not used any longer, depending on where you live. I know this is to notify them that we're ready for the interview, but I'm just looking for some clarification.

Thank you!

Nottoolong, I would go with what is listed on the embassy's website. That is what we used when we sent in packet 3. Just make sure you know what everything is especially the verification of unmarried status, Pui was the one who said we had to get it. Just remember to print that link before you send packet 3 and fill out the last 2 pages and check everything that you are sending in with packet 3 and or taking to the embassy on the interview date. I think the last 2 pages replace the DS-2001. Good luck.

Thank you, Andy and Pui. I was getting hung up on which one to use. Sounds right though as this is the one straight from their website, and this is in Thai as well. My fiancee was married before, so we have to provide her marriage, divorce, etc. certificates again. I do have a question regarding her birth certificate, marriage, divorce, etc. Where they say we need an original or certified copy containing the seal or signature..., I would think we can provide a copy of the same certificates I provided in the I-129F, along with the translations?

Ok that packet 3 is the old packet 3 the new one that was sent to me by the embassy is this http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/root/pdfs/k_instructions_package_may09.pdf This is the latest Packet 3 infomation from the Bangkok Embassy. The new packet 3 says you need marital status certificate if you have a child born out of wedlock but have not registered the marriage. Sounds to me that you only need this if you have had a child out of wedlock.

Nottoolong, please see post #3 in this thread. It looks like that is the new packet 3. I would send copies of originals with packet 3 and bring the originals to the interview. You do not need translations if the languages are in english or thai.

Thank you chris&lanoy and Andy and Pui. So the one dated ...may09.pdf is the latest. Seems to be a bit of confusion with all that's available on the web. That's why waiting for the offical packet 3 would've solved that. Sorry about all this. About my certicates, we don't have the originals. My fiancee made, or someone in her town hall made copies of the original Thai certificates there, and that's what was provided in the I-129F. These were all xerox copies of the seal and initials of the clerk or registrar. Is what was provided in the 129F enough for the interview?

Nottoolong,

Ok the packet 3 is only a one page document refering you to that web address for packet3 that I posted before. So as long as you have a case number from the NVC. Your off and running. I would fill out the forms required and gather all the documents now and send them as soon as you can.

What documents of your fiancee did you send with I-129F? I would say for the interview to have the originals just in case there is a problem with the xerox copy or they think the document was modified/forged. Plus you will need the birth certificate for when your fiancee is here in the US. Sorry about the confusion about packet 3.

I heard the new ambassador is using twitter so I wonder if sending out a tweet to her about the confusion about 2 different packet 3's being listed on their website would help about clearing up the confusion.

chris&lanoy,

Sounds good. I do remember now that once my fiancee receives packet 3, it's only a one page document. Wasn't thinking that before. Glad I'm cleared up on which packet now! I can contact the NVC in around a week for my case number.

Andy and Pui,

I provided copies of her birth, marriage, divorce, and name change certificates in Thai, along with translations created in word.docx format by her cousin here. These were then notarized and stamped by a certified translator. Should I ask her to go back to her town hall and get those same certificates, but get certified copies? Not sure if they do that. I'll see if she actually has the originals as well. I understand she'll need her original birth certificate, or a certified original for when she comes here. Hopefully that won't be a problem. No problem on the packet 3 confusion.

That's good point about twitter. Hopefully that issue will be addressed sometime soon. I don't tweet yet though:)

I think you should be ok. I think at the interview they can ask for the originals if they want to see them. I think most of those documents are to be sent with packet 3. I would send copies of those with packet 3 and bring copies(or the originals if you have them) to the interview. Maybe somebody else will have different thoughts about resending those documents with packet 3 that you already sent with your I-129f.

I do not tweet either.

I hope so. I'll talk with her and see if she can get the originals, or how difficult it would be to get them. I've read that they can request originals if they want, though if the same copies were approved with the NOA2, hopefully they would be sufficient for this step as well. Maybe someone will come along and add to this.

Thank you. Jim seemed to put it in perspective. It seems it would be a good idea to have her originals, just in case they ask. All her xerox copies are good quality copies, but you never know. Hopefully it won't be too much trouble for her to get them.

I have also heard that if you are CR1 with packet 4 that you do not need the DS2001. Does anybody know more about this?
