I've heard, but haven't verified, that part of his reason for not re-running for the House is that his District has been carved up so badly that it would be tough for him to win again. I don't know how true this is, no man.

They haven't started the carving up yet but there was talk they planned on doing it. The last time they cut his district bad and he still won easily. Instead of winning easily with 90% of vote he now only wins with 80% of the vote. Strangely the GOP is the one sending and funding a candidate against him. The Democrats usually don't even try and run against him so the primary is the whole race. It is my district and Ron Paul has my Congressman a long time. I have enjoyed being a volunteer for him also. He is a class act and his whole family are great. I think it is more because he is 75 and ready to retire. Focusing on just his ridiculous GOP presidential run is just his last hurrah. He has served us well and faithfully for a long time. God bless him and I wish him the best on this presidential run. I will of course vote for him as I know him well.

Guess I will leave one more Stevie song. This one is what Ron will be standing in.

I should say that the rumor is also that they had planned on taking his city out of the district completely so he can't run in his own district and then attach his city to an already established district with an incumbent that would be hard to beat. I want to say that it is just a rumor though and I hate to think that the GOP is this vindictive and I do plan on them doing some kind of gerrymandering but not this vicious. Who knows though. The GOP hates him a lot.

Morning Messy. Your husband has good taste then and not just in his choice of babes to marry I see. Yes Ron Paul has a son named Robert who is also a doctor that lives in Fort Worth and has a practice in Benbrook. He is planning on running for Congress but have not heard lately if he has entered yet but do know if he hasn't now that he will eventually.

Ron Paul does have other children (5) and have met several of them and they are all good people. He also has a daughter that lives near where he does and has always been very active politically for him and we expected her to maybe run for his seat when he did retire. We have made discrete inquiries and she is receptive but would like to wait till her children are grown. Not sure if the time is now or what.

Overall it will not be as I do know that where I live will be carved out of his district. I and many already knew that we were on the hitlist to be taken from Ron Pauls district and attached to another safe GOP stronghold.(Howdy Friendswood) The new GOP district has a safe for the GOP Congressman that is known to carry his own lube. Even though I knew that Ron Paul would not be my Congressman in the future I also knew that this time around he would be as the redistricting would not have taken hold till the next election cycle and I was looking forward to him being my Congressman for one last time. This is the reason I am bummed that he will nor run again. At the least I had a very good run and Ron Paul has been my Congressman a long time. Ron Paul has always been accessible and many times has answered my inquiries sometimes even personally. Because of Ron Paul I have learned a lot and will be sending him a big thanks soon.

Yes he does and a mighty fine Senator he is turning out to be.good.gif

I read today that Nick Lampson may run. I rarely speak well of any Democrat, but Lampson is nearly an ideal representative. Pete Olson defeated him in the 2008 election (Tom DeLay's former, safely Republican district). Lampson was my only crossover vote in the 2008 election (see below), so all of my candidates lost. He's as nonpartisan as they come, very well-informed, energetic, caring, positive, and concerned.

At a town-hall meeting on 3 July 2008, he asked for people's concerns. Someone said "Immigration." Lampson immediately said, "That needs to be clarified as 'illegal' or 'LEGAL' immigration." I nearly stood up and shouted, "SI, man!" Finally -- someone who understood. I was in ill humor and not feeling very patriotic, just having been hosed by the ####### Guayaquil consulate, but Lampson and his staff were alertly understanding and as proactive as any could be. His young Immigration staffer was sharp and SO kind to me, and in fact frankly stated to me at one point earlier in my process, "USCIS is our VERY worst [Federal agency]."

When I once told the head of his local office that I was a pretty staunch member of the "other party" but would vote for Lampson if they could help me, the lady blurted kindly, "Oh, we'd do it for you [help you] anyway." And then it was right back to business.
