dude, about a month ago i ran into something in the same ball park. i was outside a convience store getting ready to go inside the barbershop next door. there was a youth minister from a local black church walking around out front selling small cakes to support his youth group. he walked up to a black dude & his kids..standing next to me...sold them a few, a mexican dude alone standing a few feet away...sold him one. i'm standing there w/ money in my hand...totally ignored me. i said 'hey i take a couple'. he looked me straight in the eyes, then turned and walked away. i said 'hey dude' as i walked up to him. no response & he didn't turn back around. i had a dip of snuff in...so i spit..my fault he turned into the stream??? idk. fock him anyway.. racist #######.

That sort of shite pisses me off. Black people are some of the racist people I have ever met. Growing up in Seattle I seen a lot of it. I guess I should just deal with it because after all it was my peeps that committed atrocities against their peeps.

I oppose it because its was a horrible answer to what used to be a huge problem.

Why a horrible answer? What would you have done differently? I know if I were around back then... there are things I would also have done differently too.

What part of Seattle? I grew up in Enumclaw but we did have the misfortune of playing Ranier Beach one time...

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I didn't say anything about sympathy, Simpson. You have merely confirmed what I stated: you really don't have a grasp of cause and effect.

If you apply at a majority white employer, your chances may be higher of being hired than of an equally qualified black candidate. The opposite is likely true at a majority black employer, with the obvious caveat that, taking demographics aside, there is an exceedingly disproportionate concentration of economic wealth (aka, power) in white employers.

Well sure there is and there is also a disproportionate amount of blacks in prison (aka, no power). Not the point. I'm not arguing that there isn't/wasn't injustices. I'm complaining about how we went about trying to fix that problem. I swear it was probably a kindergartener that came up with that god awful idea.

Do I believe this is becoming more and more insignificant? Of course, and that is a great thing to say.

I love how you give credit to AA for our progress on fighting racism.

Dude... if that's what you read then you really do have problems with reading. (eta to bold, to try and point you to re-read what you wrote)

I did ask you how you would have gone about fixing the legislation to make it a sound solution.

I'm glad you asked. I would of been more for a Rosa Parks sort of approach. Leaving it to the people. Gay rights are coming along just fine without any sort of "let me in because I'm gay" approach.

All blacks?

Of course not but that goes without saying.

Des Moines. A lot of my bad experiences in this matter came from my trips to white center.

Gay rights proponents and legislation... forget much?

How exactly does leaving something to the people work out to convince a system that discriminates (back in the day, aftershocks nowadays) against participants and non-participants independently of each other? Try something a little more specific in terms of what you would have done.

The general group has a shared history, the white poor of this country, as I stated already- while tragic due to their own circumstance, do not share that history.

You mean "do not share their skin color?"

Zero, I just read something you wrote in another thread that has me re-thinking my defense of you being called a racist. There might be some truth in that. :(

thread convergence quote!:

It's not racist because it was against white people.

I was messing with Slim on that one given his disdain for having people actually have a real equality in accessing opportunity.

"Real equality" = "must be a government program for that" or else it's not real.

There is absolutely no way people could make it on their effort or merits alone. It would be impossible because of stuff that happened hundreds of years ago.

there was a youth minister from a local black church

Cannot be racist. Impossible.

there is a hell of a lot more trailer park than ghettos.

Because there is so much more trailers... they have so much more opportunity to get them good jobs that people in the ghettos aren't allowed to get because they're a different skin color.

All blacks?

You're basing your argument here that it's not "all blacks" who cause neighborhoods to be overrun with poverty, crime, filth and yet, in the same thread, using "all blacks" as the basis of your argument on why affirmative action is necessary.

Which is it?

Are "all blacks" discriminated against to the point they need artificial federal protection of employment or are "some blacks" possibly f'king it up for the rest of them?

It's amazing to me that you can somehow take a family from Podunk, Indiana whose kids excel at the local school, the parents are on the PTA board and they've never heard of government handouts in their life and you lop them into the same group as a wretched, parasitic "family" from Gary, Indiana of a mom with three kids by three different men who's never worked a day in her life simply because they're the same skin color.

Yawn, slim.

You're re-stating things already covered before. Try not to be annoying. I realize there's nothing you can do about making generalizations and putting arguments where they haven't been made. That resentment of yours...

All my family now lives north of Seattle in Bothell and Everett. Its been a long time but isnt the Yard Arm at the South end of Redondo behind a convenient store? I was living in Renton for a short time but I have to say my worst experience was when we lived in Tacoma. I hear Tacoma is getting better now but at the time certain areas were bad. We lived two blocks down from where the Trang Dai massacre took place. That among many other things made us decide to move.

How exactly is AA helping gays?

We have laws that dont allow us to discriminate based on race, thats all I need.

Those wouldn't be AA laws then. Those would be anti-discrimination laws. Know the difference. I asked about AA.

And no, Simpson, I did not say there were AA laws for gays, did I? But you claim you have OK reading comp... ;)

Naw, the Yard Arm is on the left side of the road when your driving into Des Moines (down towards the boat harbor) from Pacific Hghway. If you go a little further you hit the Dugout bar and some Chinese joint with Karaoke. Redondo doesn't have any bars other than the food joint "Salty's" and it's way over priced and full of sexually confused yupps.

Tacoma's Hilltop used to be a war zone...not sure if it still is or not. That and "K st." now renamed as "Martin Luther King Way".
