If generalizing things is silly and not everyone is the same.... why would we need a program for "a certain group" of people?

Is not an insult. Ignorance isn't a negative thing.

Calling someone a racist could be seen as a negative... unless you're black and calling someone white a racist. Then it's perfectly acceptable.

Ever wonder where they got that idea?

Do you think it would be easier or more difficult for "them" to get rid of this image without someone constantly telling them they were inferior and "needed" help?

The general group has a shared history, the white poor of this country, as I stated already- while tragic due to their own circumstance, do not share that history.

Actually Zero uses this line of attack as much as anyone, it's laughable that he could call foul when someone returns it.

Years ago the term "racist" had some meaning, today it is used so often and with such wide degree of meaning.... it's fast becoming meaningless.

Kind of like when you post an incessant pattern of racist-tinged topics (what gives with that anyway?), added to whistle symbols as if you want to say something else, but hold yourself back because you know your probable agenda will become even clearer?

No. Racism is what it is and its practitioners are easy to spot for their vitriol and their cowardice. I am shocked you haven't posted that much in that pattern. Is everything OK or should we believe you when you said you really weren't a racist? I'd love to believe you for one.

ZS, please expound on that.

On shared histories? Sure...

While we can definitely say some whites in the history of the US have had different experiences historically with discrimination, resulting in a community effect that we can classify as subcultural; history speaks quite clearly about the black experience in America. Slavery, indentured service along with poor whites, sharecropping, employment discrimination (along with 1st generation Europeans in some cases), voting discrimination, housing discrimination, etc. Many of which have changed graciously over time and become less significant in cause, but very much significant in effect. We can assign all we want the grade of sharing among different races as time has passed, but one particular racial and economic sore thumb sticks out- and some whites have a major problem with any effort to target this disparate inequality. Then we wonder about racism given real history.

Granting equal access is a wrong? I though you weren't a racist... if you oppose something that counters racism... ;)

Granting access based on merit is the right thing to do. ;) Take notes, you might actually learn something.

Read what I have responded to Anita Cocktail about what I think of AA. ;) Please, do read.

The problems ZS is that at one point in time you thought AA was a good idea. I know your logic, there was a time...

Be careful with the logic you try to use there. No mention of politics either. It must be one of those spontaneous knee-jerks again? No wonder you're upset you didn't make it big in hoops.

Hey if a certain part of the political spectrum has a serious issue with problem solving I think its my patriotic duty to help them out. ;)

Zero, I just read something you wrote in another thread that has me re-thinking my defense of you being called a racist. There might be some truth in that. :(

thread convergence quote!:

Feel free to use yer gunz to defend the victimized white men of America. Lord knows this special victims group needs savin.'

Or you could read what I've written here about AA. :P

At some point, yes, it was a great idea. Why do you oppose it, based on that logic? You do have a grasp of history or do you not? If your argument is meritorious, then you would also come to a realization that merit alone meant very little to socioeconomic advancement in this country- unless you are ignorant to that fact.

That's one of several similar post like that from said poster.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I believe that was a reference about white guys standing up against "feminazis" wanting equal access to something, right? Yes, I think I was messing with Slim on that one given his disdain for having people actually have a real equality in accessing opportunity.

I think what you are trying to say here in this thread is perhaps your critique of me being called a racist by someone that says racist things, along with other bigoted silliness.

That's one of several similar post like that from said poster.

Which of course, you properly read in context.

Don't you have something to substantiate or something?

This reminds me of when I visited the Cal Univ. A group of students were having a bake sale with the price depending on your race. Nice to know there is still hope for Berkley.

dude, about a month ago i ran into something in the same ball park. i was outside a convience store getting ready to go inside the barbershop next door. there was a youth minister from a local black church walking around out front selling small cakes to support his youth group. he walked up to a black dude & his kids..standing next to me...sold them a few, a mexican dude alone standing a few feet away...sold him one. i'm standing there w/ money in my hand...totally ignored me. i said 'hey i take a couple'. he looked me straight in the eyes, then turned and walked away. i said 'hey dude' as i walked up to him. no response & he didn't turn back around. i had a dip of snuff in...so i spit..my fault he turned into the stream??? idk. fock him anyway.. racist #######.

So let me get this straight some poor white kid is not due the same sort of sympathy and opportunity as a black kid because of US history. The poor and needy comes in all colors and there is a hell of a lot more trailer park than ghettos. I know I know because I'm white people are just lining up to give me a job.

How horrible. And what a douche. AA is racist.

I didn't say anything about sympathy, Simpson. You have merely confirmed what I stated: you really don't have a grasp of cause and effect.

If you apply at a majority white employer, your chances may be higher of being hired than of an equally qualified black candidate. The opposite is likely true at a majority black employer, with the obvious caveat that, taking demographics aside, there is an exceedingly disproportionate concentration of economic wealth (aka, power) in white employers.

Do I believe this is becoming more and more insignificant? Of course, and that is a great thing to say.

I oppose it because its was a horrible answer to what used to be a huge problem.
