I will agree that its prime time passed, and its end will be sooner than I previously thought. Your example was still only an exercise in a parallel that in my opinion doesn't reflect the reality of the purpose of those programs to begin with. I do not accuse you of having a racist agenda (nor anyone else directly here) in opposition to these programs, but some people out there do have that agenda- and they show this agenda clearly with their vitriol as well as their consistent placement of rhetoric while ignoring historical fact.

I appreciate your levelheadedness in not automatically branding me a racist. I think a facet of the racial divide is due to the notion that it's ok to ####### on the white man because he's an easy target and has had a long historical 'reign' over being in the majority. But the white men who were racists and dominating everything, oh say 70 years ago are not the white men that pay for it today.

I'm tangeting now.....

You're right; I am not a racist. (I probably am a classist, though...because I don't associate with uneducated, drug dealing gang bangers. I don't hang out in ghettos, no matter who populates them. I don't care what color someone is, as long as they can hold a decent conversation, have good values, are educated, etc.) Anyway, I digress: if I had a penny for every time I was told I was a racist because I didn't like Obama, I'd be rich. Or 'you're not voting for him cos he's black.' Yet, it seems to be ok to vote FOR him because he's black. I don't believe in AA, nor 'hate crime' upgrading. My husband is a white man. He just graduated collage last year Summa Cum Laude. And he had trouble initially finding a job. It's interesting, because on VJ today, I read an article about how the black community is especially suffering with unemployment. But we went through the same thing. Who cares about that? *shrug*

Like slim said...he couldn't get a NAACP scholarship. Imagine if there was a NAAWP, or any specific scholarship that required the recipient to be white.

It's the easy answer to brand white people with 'oh you must be racist' when it could be just as probable that they're not, but are possibly just over being crapped on for the sake of some 'racial equality' when in actuality, there isn't. It's the easy answer, imo. The funny thing is, some people who raise this objection are seeing the color, where I personally am not. I don't like Obama because I'm a libertarian. The only people who saw his color were those who accused me of being a racist. Which I find extraordinarily interesting.

The white men today are burdened by the sins of their fathers - no question that white men back in the day did awfully horrific and heinous things. But like AA, that time (as a majority) is long gone - and in a truly racially blind society, we need to put down all the color qualifiers in every segment of society.

YOur neighbor is one more victim in the whole AA movement, here this guy is fully qualified and he has to spend his professional life listening over his shoulder.

Instead of being secure in his professional image he has this baggage to carry for life.

Very unfair.

Seems more a victim of the institutionalized racism we see whenever jerks say that successful blacks are there due to AA in a very vitriolic fashion. ;)

Right now. Google "urban appalachian" and see what you come up with. Rednecks in the 'hood aren't exactly born with silver spoons in their mouths. Worse still, everyone thinks they're "already ahead of the game" because of their skin color.

That's not racist at all, is it?

Like one that didn't discriminate against me based on my skin color?

I thought that wasn't supposed to happen because of affirmative action. Are you saying only one group gets protection? How is that fair?

It sure does. It says that I applied equally regardless of the color of peoples' skin and didn't claim that I should get special privileges simply based on my skin color.

Perhaps we should make a government program that protects everyone?

Oh.... I get it now. We should only apply it to things that are mandatory. That way people of any color can go to the school but only people of one color can play the optional sports offered there.

Yes, I see it. Whites keeping whites down historically. If you believe historically, that whites have had the same unfortunate circumstances, as say, blacks... then you definitely need to study some more.

So if any of us were held down, historically, why has over 40 years of "equal opportunity" not succeded?

Yep. This is why AA is rapidly becoming obsolete. Each year there are less and less racist jerks from the white side of skin color; and the corresponding overshoot in racist jerks on the black side of skin color is going to be a thing of the past too- and it will be done away with faster if something is done about ameliorating the economic impact that is affecting the black community on average magnitudes more than any other community in the country. This does not mean giving things away, but stating it clearly, from the beginning, that willing participants are investing through hard work in their own improvement- facilitated by the social safety net.

Of course people will oppose even that, because they are naturally burdened with their own lack of acceptance of bygones, as well as a stubborn refusal to seek constructive solutions to present-day consequences of the past.

I guess you missed again what I stated about equal access. Equal access is not a giveaway, as much as you might be angry about non-whites getting equal access to, say, an education that you think you were cheated out of.

You post about subjects that it's obvious you don't have a clue on. There's nothing equal about affirmative action. When a person gets selected for a job over a person that's more qualified for said job and race is an issue...well where's the equality in that?

If someone on this board married an Asian for example, and someone else married a Caucasian and both have children, why should one couples children get no interest loans, special grants for college, and be hired for their race and not their qualifications?

Your not only a racist, your an ignorant racist.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Read before you post. But I believe your pestilence here in calling me an ignorant racist is reportable as an unprovoked, unsubstantiated, and frankly, retarded, attack.

Tt has for some. When you resort to silly generalization, you continue to show what you lack.

What you lack is a clue. You belittle people on here when they show you for the uneducated jr. high school drop out that you show yourself to be.

You don't have a clue, yet you continue to post.

When calling someone ignorant, you probs should use correct grammar...

Btw, other than your last sentence, I agree with you.

That last sentence was dead on. That sock puppet is a rampant racist as is affirmative action. It's blatant racism.

Some? Some like our president?

If it's a huge, industrialized, nationwide, federal program, shouldn't it work for MOST?

And if it's so succesful, why isn't it required in ALL aspects of life?

Answer honestly: when you typed this, what color were the people that displayed said 'institutionalized racism'?

Answer: ironically enough, his biggest complaint was about members of the black community.

Calling someone an ignorant racist is a blatant violation of the TOS. You may not agree with what he's saying, but he didn't attack you. He's taking part in what I see as a very civilized discussion, so there's really no need to be throwing out such insults.

So if any of us were held down, historically, why has over 40 years of "equal opportunity" not succeded?

Because perhaps reality has been more complex than generalizing entire communities. Lest we also forget that I'm including people opposed to 'equal opportunity,' have not kept quiet in their efforts to keep things like in the good ole' days, although they've failed in the grand scheme of things.
