Those wouldn't be AA laws then. Those would be anti-discrimination laws. Know the difference. I asked about AA.

And no, Simpson, I did not say there were AA laws for gays, did I? But you claim you have OK reading comp... ;)

I was being a smart #######. Of course you didnt, we as a country are slowly but surely giving gays equal rights without a AA sort of approach.

Naw, the Yard Arm is on the left side of the road when your driving into Des Moines (down towards the boat harbor) from Pacific Hghway. If you go a little further you hit the Dugout bar and some Chinese joint with Karaoke. Redondo doesn't have any bars other than the food joint "Salty's" and it's way over priced and full of sexually confused yupps.

Tacoma's Hilltop used to be a war zone...not sure if it still is or not. That and "K st." now renamed as "Martin Luther King Way".

Oh ok, you threw me off when you said Kent and Rendondo. So would that be the bar behind taco time?

I read somewhere recently that the crime levels in Tacoma have dropped quite a bit.

Is it injustice for more blacks to be in prison if more blacks commit more crime? Or is it a poverty/bad public defender thing, where more POOR are in prision? I don't have the answers, and it's a complex subject.

No. You misunderstood my point. I was referring to stupid answers for serious problems like abortion and racism. For example releasing half of the black inmates in prison to fix this problem would be a stupid answer.

A summary of how you support affirmative action-

Apparently, in your grain of salt, college is mandatory and college sports are optional. Only one of which should be afforded access by AA.

You've applied your opinion on AA in terms of what it should allow access to and what it should not. That clearly defines your opinion on the issue. You support AA when it affords access to a livelihood (and the education for that livelihood) but not something optional like a sports team.

You take into account historical fact as the purpose of implementing this program and acknowledge there are some who oppose it on non-racist grounds and others who oppose it on racist grounds.

Since you support it, you can't fall into either of those categories.

More support for your policy of generalizing groups of people simply based on their skin color.

Grouping, yet again, an entire race of people into one "community" based on their skin color and supporting a program that affords them access to a livelihood based on their skin color alone.

Grouping people based on skin color.

So you're separating two groups based on nothing other than skin color?

And again...

You haven't actually written a lot about AA but you have clearly pointed out that you have no problem grouping people based on their skin color alone and that basis should afford them access to something "mandatory" for a livelihood and not something "optional" like sports - provided they are black.

You support affirmative action.

You support grouping people together based on their skin color alone. Please explain to me how grouping people together based on their skin color is not racist.

I asked for proof, not a retarded summary that you paraphrase in your own special way to constitute something that isn't. Can't and won't huh? Keep trying if you have the time for it. I did give you all night to produce actual proof.

They are figthing for their rights, Simpson, not being given. If by giving you want to say, they are slowly being tolerated legally towards equality, then I am with you in meaning.

They along with many others, point being is that we don't need a AA sort of approach to fix problems as such. The moral majority will rule the day.

That's why I say that the time for AA is fast approaching its end- take it from a moral point of view as Nelson Mandela once did.

How?

Even the African American anger at past injustices, IMO, is reducing itself to vocal opposition often highlighted by the usual racist spotlight. Kind of like what was once widespread racism against African Americans has been reduced to innuendo and cautious expressions from a reduced segment of the white population. The time is approaching when racists on all side will be drowned out by people merely seeking success on their own merit. A certain degree of optimism is needed and not too outlandish to desire- save of course for the pessimists among us.

Look around you and take note of the progress that has been made so far, New York comes to mind.

It is indeed a clumsy way of addressing social/class inequalities. That said, the inequalities still exist. Women still get paid less than men for doing equivalent jobs, blacks are statistically more likely to experience poverty than whites - have higher infant mortality, greater likelihood of being unemployed, lower levels of general education etc. etc.

On some level you have to accept that these are current and real problems. The question is what can or should be done to address these inequalities.

Look around you and take note in the progress that has been made so far, New York comes to mind.

Supposedly liberal California banned gay marriage.

Not really- you just missed the entire thread. Read around, you might grab it.

No need to repeat what is already written here.

Indeed. I think all people that have any ability to think rationally and progressively should be able to move on, literally, and not just gripe to others to do so while ranting their anger which is indicative of deep-seated issues. By doing so they, IMO, improve their lot in life independent of what is done to assist people based on an obvious history with its consequences.

We have a black president. Now if that isn't proof enough that this country is playing on an equal field I don't know what is.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

On its way, certainly. Declaring an end to the consequences of racism is pretty silly and ignorant.

Yeah look at gay rights in California as a whole and then get back to me.

 It must be my reading comprehension.
