Around here the landmarks are the major highways. As long as you know how each one runs (directionally) you could drive randomly in any direction and you'll hit one in less than a half hour. Then you're golden.

I get a kick out of Jersyites. You ask them where they live and they will tell you the exit. If they go two states over they act like they took a trip to China or something. It's all bout the "hood" there.

Same here. The major routes are north-south, except around Los Angeles, where they make an east-west jog, so if you head east, or west, you will find one eventually.

This is back when I didn't have a GPS. So I went to the front desk of my hotel and asked which highway do I need to go to so and so. And they go, "the highway" is that way. So I repeat, which highway? I'm expecting a freakin number. Route 787 or someshit. The dude repeats, the highway is that-a-way. Huh. So I decide to hop in and see for myself. There's a sign... "Highway". Seriously. It was like being in freakin' China except there were fewer Chinese people than I'd expect in China.

I was in yesterday's army, and back then you didn't have to worry about falling asleep in your foxhole and getting buggered by your fellow soldier. It was what is called a "regular army" back then...where the guys liked the gals.

Ever been to Rochester? I was there once during Labor Day long weekend and the huuuuge highways were all empty. I'd estimate 10% capacity. A few hundred miles away on I-95, total freakin gridlock.

Even those tax dollars can be used more wisely.
