Holy Shenanigans, Batman ! OK la - no brownies.

I'm terribly sorry you've had this trouble, prep.mac - is NOT what happens at other SSA offices - the SSN (the number, not the card) is usually available next day or second day, clerk can give you a printout.

a DHS security alert sounds a bit strange as well.

I won't mention exlax-imbued brownies, no man.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

No Darnell..better not..lol! Some things we can let go...hope card be here on Tues...am sure the number's there already. The celrk said same day on Monday I was cleared..the DHS security alert part sounded like a coup out but who knows? Apparently, it's an INCONVENIENEC for them to give out the number to the owner but could say something about it, maybe even give it to the Suervisor of DMV/BMV.Isnt that NOT right?!we'll see, we'll see next week...sigh again!

Thanks for the laughter...too funny.

Hi prep.mac,

as i have been reading too, the immigration would understand if you don't have a lot of financial co-mingling or other evidences for newly wed couples. we went to BMV 3x already and even was able to talk to the Corporal and he really didn't let me take the written exam for DL.i showed all my evidences, even the SSN and EAD but they refused us. they just based it on my I-94 ( which is already expired) and from the time the USCIS received the forms which has 7 days gap. i have been 7 days out of status when the USCIS received the packet. from going 3x and refused us, i just told to myself not to stressed about it.he can't include me to his car insurance bec i don't have a DL. our lawyer even told them that they are "idiot" lol =) because they are not aware much of the immigrations. Anyway, let me know what's gonna happen on your interview. Goodluck to us! =)

We just got to be honest and tell USCIS what we have and why...have you gotten you SS card yet?

Will update you what happens on July 25.

Best regards!

In my interview they never even asked to see my SSN. Just say you applied for one and are awaiting the arrival of your card.

As for utilities etc that are joint. You have more than enough proof that you're together. All me and my wife brought with us was a Verizon phone bill in both of our names and a Bank letter which had both of our names on it also.

I want you to breathe and take a step back, relax you'll be fine.

Good luck with your interview.

Thank you for your words...congrats again!I replied to your message on what happened during your AOS interview...happy happy for you!

I am taking a step back...lol!! You know, though, that IO's differ with their questions...there's someone here who was asked for his SS card during the intervuew..it didn't make sense! They were approved after 40 mins!hhaha! Anyway, my hubby this morning said that the insurance agent said we can have the life insurance policy next week..the SSN I needed hopefully to start a job soon with an existing job offer...and I do have opportunities online that need ssn...but am ok to wait for it now..everything happens for a reason/purpose.

Thank you, everyone for the encouragement....I want July 25 to be over..lmao!

Have a good one, everyone!

Hi Everyone!

Someone was mentioned before as the SSN Expert of sorts on VJ but I can't seem to find the thread on that nor anything that talks about a B1/B2 visa adjusting status and applying for SSN first time. I saw K1 and CR1 SSN concerns. Anyway here goes:

I went to SSA today to get my SSN. I was hoping to get the number at least prior to the actual card as some of us here got the SSN the next day after applying?! The SSA lady said since this my first time I have applied for a number , SSA can't be give the number to me prior to the actual card sent on the mail. I jst have the wait for the card within 2 weeks she said.

I have a job offer and I just need the number so I can start working. I also need to get my state ID and DL so my USC husband can inlcude me in his auto insurance for our July 25th interview. If I can't get that number within the week, we won't have the auto insurance policy in hand on the July 25th interview.

On AOS interview documents: Next, the life insurance policy agent today said they can give us a letter for the interview if the life insurance policy we got last week won't be in hand also...now am worried cuz on the interview we will only have the joint bank account and internet/water billls, IRS transcripts (2008-2010), his pay stubs, letter of employment as proofs of a bonafide marriage (plus of course marriage license, birth certificate, cards and pix). We don't have a health insurance either cuz he just went back to work in May from a 6 month unemployment so we are just catching up on the bills that piled up through the months. That's why I NEED to start working. Like I said, I got a job offer already.

Now back to SSN, do I need to go back there and ask for the manager? How had some got the number sooner than the cards?

Sorry, venting out...hope everyone's having a better week..I know I know..I should count my blessings..we didn't have any lawyer assisting us nor had any major problems really...well, until now..that we're close to July 25th!

Thanks in advance for your replies!

My wifes SSN was in our mailbox 2 business days later after applying in person, so you shouldn't worry too much. In retrospect it was a waste of time waiting at the SSA the next day after applying as it took about 2 hours in the lineup to get the number.

Good Luck!

I don't understand this. For the interview, it is not necessary to have the SSN in hand. They will NEVER ask for it at all (or at least they did not ask at all). They ask for EVIDENCES of bona fide marriage...SSN and EAD is NOT an evidence of bona fide marriage at all, so they won't ask for it. SSN and EAD is something if you want to work while your case is pending you can get those! If you decided to stay at home and sit at the couch eating popcorn instead of wanting to work, you don't even need to apply for EAD at all, and you can just apply for SSN once you have your green card in hand. So, if you guys are only worried of the SSN (and EAD) because of the interview coming up, don't worry they won't ask for it at all. It is not an evidence of bona fide marriage. Better focus on joint bank accounts, joint lease agreement (or house insurance-whichever applies), auto insurance, health insurance, photos, if applicable then affidavits etc. Good luck!
