We are working on the K-1 process starting now... we are gathering the info for our I-129 package and planing our wedding we are talking about wedding there then coming home after we get the approval... does anyone know if we are ok to wed there after the approval within the 90 days and then return to the states or does the wedding have to be in the states?

You send off 129f petition and then if approved it will be sent to Sydney for the beneficiary to be approved for a k1 visa /fiance/ee visa . So you have to get married in USa within 90 days of arrival in US. This is why it is called a fiance petition.

So if you marry in the states you cant go back to Australia till you apply for AOS and have a AP or GC I hope you are aware of this too.

Do NOT plan your Australian wedding until you have your GC. While it's possible to get AP (travel document) and be all hunky doorey, it's also just as likely that you'll get scheduled for your GC interview at an inconvenient time, try and reschedule, they tell you they did, turns out they didn't and your AOS is denied. Too many horror stories. Once you have the GC it will be easy to come and go as you please (maintaining permanent resident status of course)
