When we marry...

We're still waiting for our NOA2 but being the planner I am I'm curious...I know when my fiance arrives on the K-1 we marry but can we go away to an island and marry? I know it's supposed to be the USA but what if it's a place with US jurisdiction like Puerto Rico for example. I always dreamed of an exclusive small beach wedding so I'm wondering about where it can be done. If not we can always go to Florida I suppose but the Carribean sure is nice :)

That's funny-- I was going to post a very similar question, but you beat me to it. I was wondering the same thing for the honeymoon-- we are thinking either Hawaii or Puerto Rico, if my fiancee would be able to "enter" back into the mainland U.S. from Puerto Rico (do you ever even "leave" the U.S. by going there?).

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question, but I would like to know the answer too! Thanks all.

I don't have an answer either. Not one I feel comfortable sharing since I don't want to give any wrong info. I am sure someone has an answer to your question and I am curious what it is, so this reply will bump the thread up.

As long as the flight is direct from the US mainland then it's considered a domestic flight. You shouldn't have to go through customs. US citizens and LPR's only need US issued identification, the same as you'd need for any domestic travel. A K1 visa holder should have their foreign passport and unexpired I-94.

Puerto Rico is not a US state, but it's considered part of the geographical United States under Title 8.

You'll need a health clearance to get a marriage license in Puerto Rico. I'm not sure what that entails. I only see vague references to it on the internet.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Having flown through San Juan/Puerto Rico when traveling to the U.S.V.I. as a Green Card holder, I have never been so scrutinized, never had to show my Green Card and my passport more often than on that particular trip. That's because the V.I. and Puerto Rico are main portals for illegal aliens trying to enter the U.S. mainland. Not fun.

All that aside, Hawaii, especially Maui is paradise on Earth and San Thomas and St. Jon are both gigantic 3rd-world sh*tholes with screaming poverty everywhere outside the secured tourist enclaves. Awful, just awful.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Hello!

We are waiting for our NOA2, too. Keep the faith! The best way to relax is doing what you guys are doing, planning your future :)

I'm from Puerto Rico and YES you can enter and get married here. My island is very attractive and beach wedding are splendid and very common here. The weather is perfect for it. Also, Puerto Rico is a bit cheaper than the states. So, if you want to save money, maybe Puerto Rico could be your destiny. You can check this links with important information of the requirements for getting married in Puerto Rico:

Hope it helps! Good luck!

Hawaii is great but a lot more expensive especially for about 10 people traveling. Good idea though :)

If it is a US territoty and you do not go into any non-US territory, yes, you can do this.

You can also consider the Florida Keys - some nice area there good for beach weddings and honeymoons.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
