I have a question regarding the Affidavit of Support for those who have experience in Casa. How much do they care about your past years income if your current income is above 125% of poverty level? I was laid off from my job of 17 years in 2008, after which I went back to school full time while collecting unemployment. I graduated in May 2010, and immediately started working at my current job. My 2008 taxes show sufficient income, but 2009 and 2010 fall short. I was originally a little concerned that my current income might be a little too close to the required level for my household size, but I have just accepted a new position within the same company which will put me well above for the current year. Will my lack of income for 2009 and 2010 be a problem? I was wondering if supplying proof that I held my previous job for 17 years as well as earlier tax returns would help at all by showing my stability and ability to earn above the required amount, or would they not even consider that? I really don't want to use a co-sponsor if I don't have to.

I appreciate any input on this matter.

Thanks,

Marie

Marie, they really want to see the last year's tax statement. that is the important one. would be great idea to get employer letter of current income and years served there for backup. they may even ask fot it. Have it notarized or ceritfied. you can get certified copies of tizes straight from local IRS office at the front desk.

Hope this helps. jeanne

Thank you for your response. Yes I will provide a letter from my employer, pay stubs, and tax transcripts. But my concern is the fact that I did not earn enough in 2010. Will this be an issue if my CURRENT earnings are enough?

Most of the times they don't ask for the affidavit,I had it with me during my interview but they never asked for it ,that was back in 2006 .

Good luck .
