Hi All,

Have few easy questions about medical needed for AOS :

- how long does medical typically take ?

- what are typical lead times for an appointment ?

- is there anything I need to take with me other than I-693 form ?

- can this be done ahead of an actual wedding ?

- what if I don't have any vaccication records ? Only one I really have is Hepatitis vaccine that I had done few years ago, everything else was done when I was a kid and can't find it...

Thanks in advance for answers.

Hi Kzienlinski,

I think every clinic varies. I can share my experience with you. Mine was pretty simple.

- 1st app: to draw blood. Got three shots. Less than 10 minutes. Went back 3rd day to check if there's red bump for hepatitis. There is a small one. Sent for chest Xray down the block (less than 15 mins). Returned to clinic with chest X-ray. Lungs clear. The nurse passed me the sealed envelope containing I-693 form and X-Ray letter lungs clear. She also passed me back my chest X-ray and asked me to bring it during interview just in case the officer ask for it.

- Do you mean doc's app? I called and did walk-in on a weekday and it was fast.

- I brought the I-693 form but they didn't need it. They have the forms as well. The nurse filled in the form for me.

- Can this be done ahead of an actual wedding? - Not sure.

- I only have vaccination record from my Uni. It's OK. The doc knows what to do. The doc will draw your blood for testing to see what shots you need or may not need.

Good Luck with your AOS journey!

Best Wishes,

moSu

Answering your questions in bold red.

Hi All,

Have few easy questions about medical needed for AOS :

- how long does medical typically take ?

A: Exatctly as MOSU said . For me I went to a USCIS approved doctor.I can give you the link to the list of doctors if you do not have it. Then they tested me physically and took blood for different exams, gave a skin test for TB. They gave me two options either i can take the shots from them or from my county downtown health centre. They gave me a list of county health centres with their numbers. It took half an hour that day. Told me to come a day later to see how the skin reacted. Meanwhile i went to my county health centre and took the shots pescribed by the doc. Was a lot cheaper than to take it from the doc. I returned to the doc after 2 days with the evidence that i have taken the shots. My skin reacted a bit so they wanted to do a chest xray for TB. Obviously was not cheap. I did it and waited and fortunately i was clean .... the doc gave me the sealed envelope for sending to uscis and a copy for me. When sending to USCIS i sent both the sealed envelope and the letter from county health centre as a evidence of shots. This thing on next day took almost 3 hours.

- what are typical lead times for an appointment ? Depends on your doctor`s availability

- is there anything I need to take with me other than I-693 form ? You can take your passport maybe but they have forms. I took my I-693 but had to fill up the one they had.

- can this be done ahead of an actual wedding ? Not sure. You can call the USCIS customer care to ask.

- what if I don't have any vaccication records ? Only one I really have is Hepatitis vaccine that I had done few years ago, everything else was done when I was a kid and can't find it... I dont think those would count as they want recent ones.

Hope these helps

Thanks in advance for answers.

Medical is typically 2 appointments a few days apart.

They know how to determine what vaccinations you need.

YES you can do it in advance of the wedding. We did. Good luck.

This answer is specific to vaccination:

According to CDC, it is possible to have a 'tither blood test', that will reveal you have the antibodies for the vaccines you had and can be use in lieu of records (yes, who keeps those, specially if you moved across countries). Don't know what the cost of this would be, but it takes several days for results. That said, the only vaccines you would need proof of are the ones called 'age appropriate', that is, depends on how old you are. Go to the CDC site and the vaccines they recommend for adults here in the US is what USCIS wants. I downloaded all that info but I am not at my compute now.

If you can't find what I'm talking about, more than happy to send you the PDFs; let me know

So yes, you can do the medical exam before the wedding, after, it's up to you, the only thing to keep on mind is that when the time comes and you will send in your AOS package that the medical is still valid, in other words once you have your examination done and they fill out the paperwork for you it is valid for 6 months.

If you have medical insurance you can even get the basic things done at your regular doctor, like the mentioned verification of your current vaccinations as well as the TB test. The immigration authorized physician will accept these and transcribe these on the immigration form and draw blood for syphillis test.

At my exam he also checked my heartbeat and blood pressure, asked about any chronic diseases and then sent me on my way. 2 days later the bloodwork results were available and they then gave me the sealed envelope plus copy for me of the forms.

That's my experience with the medical :)

congrats on the upcoming weeding and good luck on your AOS journey
