Great taste in beers, scandal. I'm a big Lagunitas fan too. Maybe I'll go get a pint this afternoon now that I'm thinking about it! I'd also like to put in a big thumbs up for pretty much ANYTHING that comes from the Deschutes Brewery in Bend, OR. I lovelovelove their Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Inversion IPA. star_smile.gif

Next time I am over there, I will send your regards about their IPA. I don't get over there much, since their head bottler died several years ago, and their sales rep no longer parks his motorhome around back behind the brewery. Sonoma county is infested with microbreweries, but only a small percentage are available outside the area. It's a good alternative to wine tasting to sample the local beers.

Please do! My local liquor store carries Deschutes six-packs for $6, which is how I found out about them. Cheap and delicious? Wonderful.

Hahaha, he lives there, but he's not from there, so no worries. He's actually a retired pro golfer running a resort there, and he has told me how they talk. He's lived all over the country, and Branson so far seems pretty 'normal' to him. From my trips, I've seen my share of the toothless and incomprehensible, and heard a lot of "huh?" when I've tried to talk to them!

Thanks for all the links, I will have to attend a beerfest there if there is such a thing, to sample them all.

As to Canadian microbrews, you've missed two of my faves : Mill Street Brewery and Huether Hotel/ Lion Brewery who makes a killer Adlys Ale that I will sorely miss when I go. I'm not sure you can get their beer bottled, but if you're ever in Waterloo, you need to pop in for a pint!

Well good to know. Branson was carved out of a part of the Ozark region that we have tried to keep contained. They have done a great job there and you should be happy. Just remember that the original populace there still show up now and again to see the modern wonders of electricity and indoor plumbing and what not so just keep about 10 yards away and you should be fine.good.gif

As for beers the best bet is to go and try different kinds until you find one or two that you like.kicking.gif

Good stuff! And just for fun, are you saying that the country would have preferred McCain over Obama and the last vote was just an anomaly? Missouri voted McCain in, so maybe they're losing their touch.

Did you know that was only the second time that ever happened since 1904?

On the micro brews, I don't remember seeing much coming in outside the state, with the exception of Colorado. I'm trying to remember the major ones in the area. There is Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City...thats probably one of the more common ones you'll find in Branson.

Have you been to the Silverado Brewing Company? I've been meaning to stop there at least once. Its south of Calistoga and north of St. Hellena. The closest brewery to my house is the Pyramid Brewery...still haven't visited there either.(though I've had their wheat often)

I've had Lagunitas IPA, but I don't really like Indian Pale Ales.

The only other northern breweries I can think of are Bear Republic, Napa Smith and for cider Ace.

They shut down the http://www.acecider.com/pub/ near Graton. Now it is only open on Fridays. I wonder what happened there.

I don't care for IPA's either, but when it's free, only an ingrate would complain. All the shorts coming off the bottling line were set aside for the employees to take home, and there was plenty to share.

I think it had something to do with the lease changing. I guess its for storage only now.

I used to hang out at Stumptown Brewery in Guerneville. They make a good Pilsner that I like. The have a festival there every year where you can taste 50 or more different ales and beers from around the area. I watched the place come together, but have only been there a few times in the last five years.

Is the Pyramid Brewery still across the street from the Gillman St. club? Or should I ask if the club is even there anymore.

Thank you!!

My son is a student at University of Waterloo so we go there often. I was there in April and again on Memorial Day weekend in May, and we're probably going again in August. I'll definitely check out Heuther next time I'm there, and I'll try Mill Street next time we're in Toronto. I really appreciate the recommendations :star: :star:

Make sure to go up to the Barley Works (patio) if it's warm, or down to the Lion Brewery if not, they have the best menus and service. Also, if your son doesn't already know, there's a rib and beerfest in Victoria Park in Kitchener this coming weekend, it has a ton of microbrews around, and I can't wait to check them all out.
