hey everyone,

ill make this detailed and easy as possible!

in January 2011, I planned on visiting my fiance in the US for roughly a month or so. I had never been on a plane before nor in the US other then a few times as a child that i can barely remember. Im from and living in Canada too if that makes any difference. My fiance has always been the one to visit me so this is why i wanted to go attempt to go to the US and visit for a little while (was planning on about a month or two, i wasnt sure how long because of my schedual). When I was iin customs at the airport and being asked a bunch of questions, I actually got held in customs and was talked to in an office by an immigration officer. He asked me why i never had a return ticket (which i didnt have, because again i was not sure how long I would be visiting my fiance 1 month or 2 months, i know I can have up to 6months there though roughly). I explained this to the officer. I was also asked why i had SOO much luggage (which i did have alot of because i have never traveled before, im one of those girls that brings a ton with me anywhere, and I was uniformed that bringing too much luggage makes you suspicious too?). Lastly he asked why i dont have a job, and I didnt have a job because i was planning on visitng the US for a month or so and was planning on looking for a new job when i got back home in canada. Looking back on all this i suppose that all does sound suspicious. I have just never traveled and didnt realize some things...So from all this, i was 'red flagged". My fingerprints were taken along with my photo taken and Signing some papers. I have never attempted to go to the US since.

My overall question is. From all this that has happend to me, will I have any problems filing for the k-1 visa?

does anyone have any similar stories?

is there anything extra i need to do now for my visa because of this?

will i have a problem at the border next time even if my visa is approved?

sorry i have so many questions. but answers are GREATLY APPRECIATED !!

Hello Jessica...I had this very same thing happen to me in 1998. No return ticket, staying for a while (from Canada). No job. They denied me entry to the US. Banned me for 6 months. I then applied for a K-1 about 8 months later, had no problems. I just had to mention I had once been denied. I was divorced about 9 years later. Then this year I became a US Citizen. You see...it was something I got past. But for the next several years, when they ask you...Have you even been detained or denied entry. you have to tell them the truth. It's already on the screen in front of them. They just want to see if you tell the truth.

Don't worry hun...you'll be ok. Just get a job and show that you did as you said. Supported yourself. returned to Canada.

If you wanna PM me and ask me anything feel free.

Did the officer eventually let you go to the United States or did you have to stay in Canada?

Either way, this will not impact your Visa at all. There are questions about being denied at the border, so if that's what happened to you, answer them honestly. Explain the circumstances. They will not look down on you for having this happen to you - it happens fairly often.

So be honest, don't lie when you're asked about it, and you'll be fine.

You shouldn't have a problem at the border when activating your Visa.

I was denied entry twice, although you MUST disclose it (if denied, you didn't actually say if you were admitted into the US) it won't be an issue for the K-1

Was anything written into your passport? What did the forms say that you signed?

Good luck
