Anyone who interviewed at the New Delhi embassy - how did you get to the embassy? Bus, cab, hired car, rail, submarine, roller blades, camel ?

My fiance and I are planning to have our hotel driver from Gurgaon take us. But what does our driver do while we're interviewing? How do we contact him after the interview if we can't take cell phones with us? Is there a place near the embassy where cabs congregate so we could just pick up one of those for the ride back to Gurgaon?

We would appreciate any advice you have on how to easily travel to and from the embassy without breaking the bank.

Thanks!

more expensive route - book a car

less expensive route - auto rickshaw (three wheeler)

least expensive bus or metro, but will have to get off 3km before embassy - so you will have to switch modes of transportation.

I think you would be most comfortable and save time by just booking a car and you will get AIR CONDITIONING!!! =)

(also have dipu ask the hotel people- you could rent a car through them.)

I think the car is the route we're going, but when I've driven past the embassy, I've never seen a waiting place for cars. Do you know if there are pay phones in the embassy so we can call the driver when we're ready to be picked up? Or is there a waiting lot somewhere nearby that we can meet him?

Thanks for the reply!

You can not take cellphones inside. you can deposit them at a counter which is next to main gate. You can ask driver to go somewhere until you come back, receive your cell and call him for pick up.

Good Luck !

Not sure Delhi has the VFS service available, if it is aks your driver to drop you are VFS.

VFS normally has bus that will take you to embassy, you can leave your phone and everything at VFS, they give you plastic token which is allowed in consulate.

When you are done VFS bus brings you back to VFS facility you pick up your phone and call your driver at VFS facility.

If VFS has bus service - you'll need to time everything out as VFS is in Nehru Place, not exactly super close to the US embassy.

Each time we went we either went via bus/metro or rickshaw [or a combo of the 3]. There should be a metro station on Aurangzeb Rd, about 1km from the embassy.

There is no taxi stand right by the embassy but there is a small market not too far off with taxis available. [There's this area with trees right next to the embassy where families wait on their loved ones - you can ask there for directions to the market area - it's a small market with a line of shops that make copies/faxes/take passport sized photos - I can't find it on google maps but it wasn't far maybe Panscheel Marg?]. We'd usually walk toward CP [not super far] when leaving and within 5 minutes we'd be in an area where rickshaws are easier to find.

Having a car and driver on call would be great but depending on a laundry list of factors you can't control, you may be there all day or you may be out in 45 minutes. Make sure the driver is aware of that...He may need to keep busy for 8-9 hours...
