USCIS received my AOS and I-765 application today. It was sent to the National Benefits Center. My question is what happens to it now? Does it get processed there or will it be sent to my local office (Tampa) to be processed there? Is this an indication that I will have to go for an interview or not?

The Chicago Lockbox is the National Benefits Center. They check for completeness (forms signed, correct form submitted, check amount correct) and deposit the money and issue the NOA1 receipt. They will send it to your local office to be adjudicated and you will interview. OR you may get notice that it was sent to CSC instead for adjudication. You won't have an interview unless CSC thinks it needs to go to a local office for an interview because there is something they don't feel they can handle remotely without a face-to-dace time. In that case they would send it back to NBC. Not many are sent back.

Yes they are physically in different locations, but the lockbox is basically the "mailroom" for NBC. This NBC page lists the mailing address as Chicago, except for reponses to RFEs. http://www.usaimmigrationattorney.com/NewSite/NationalBenefitsCenter.htm

Many K1's are transfered to California Service Center and get a greencard without interview. There's no way to know in advance. It will either be adjudicated in California or your local office.

Our AOS (Fiance visa) was sent from Chicago lock box to the National Benefits center.. Just got an email that is was just sent to California Service center. We live in North Carolina. California is not local to us. Does this mean we might not get a interview?

Yes, you most likely won't interview.
