My wife's mom got her tourist visa approved today!! We're not positive what tipped their decision after 3 denials but I think it's the fact that after the officer asked one question she just started talking and talking about everything for 10 minutes and wouldn't let him say anything. She was all like "Look at these pictures of my granddaughter, how can you not let me go see her! I've been in this house for 26 years, why would I want to leave? I've been married for over 30 years with children and grandchildren living nearby, why would i want to abandon them?? My town is a great city that attracts lots of tourists, I invite YOU to come visit ME! " The officer just laughed and said okay you can go. And when she left the interview window all the people were laughing and asking she would invite them to her city as well.

So persistence finally paid off and the good guys won. My advice is to keep trying and don't let the officers intimidate you. Maybe the embassy just got tired of seeing her. :D

That's great! Great story, too - good for your mother-in-law! :)

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My congratulations!!! My mom has been trying to get a visa twice and all was unsuccessfully.. Right now we are planning to have the third interview. I do hope she will get a visa. Trust me, she DOES love to talk and it didn't help first time and the second time the officer was not polite at all. He didn't let her talk. Could you tell me what documents they asked or she showed up during interview? We have similar situation, but she is divorced over 2o years and she is not going to get married again. They don't believe her or maybe for some another reasons they don't give her a visa..

Nadiya.

They didn't ask for any specific documents, but we sent an affidavit of support, proof of my wife's naturalized citizenship, birth cert and passport for wife and daughter, and of course invitation letter. Most of that we sent the last few times too but what we think won the day was having my wife as a citizen and not letting the officer get a word in edgewise. Now none of this is supposed to affect the outcome, but unofficially that's how they officially work. :bonk:

My mother in law just applied for her second visa. She was denied the first time and then received a single entry the second time. This time she just sent her passport and application by fed ex and in one week they sent back her passport with a 5-year multi-entry visa.
