I noticed that for the K1 application we sent in photocopies of originals. FOr the interview my now hubby brought all the originals and they were thankfully returned. Now we are filing AOS. Do we send the original marriage license or a photocopy? I am still using the original for my name change and banking issues, etc.

Why do you think there will be a interview for AOS?

I know about half a dozen people who went thru AOS in the last couple of years and none of them had a interview. Like us we sent in money and paperwork and next thing you know you get approval letter and a GreenCard in the mail.

I also know about half a dozen people who adjusted status from a K1, including my wife. I only know one who didn't have an interview. My wife and step-kids got an interview. We never got any RFE's at any point in the process, the interview at the consulate was fast and easy with no issues being raised, and the AOS interview was equally fast and easy with no issues being raised. Because of this, I'm certain there were no "red flags" that triggered an interview in our case. I'm quite confident we were chosen at random, which would imply that anyone could be chosen at random.

Since interviews do happen, and anecdotal evidence here on VJ suggests that interviews are not a rare occurrence, I think it's prudent for everyone to plan for the possibility of an interview.

That's awfully presumptuous. About half of the March K-1 AOS filers here on VJ have had or have been scheduled interviews. I'm still in the "Don't know" camp but after waiting about 3-1/2 months, I'm assuming we'll have something at the local USCIS office.

To the OP.. We went and got about 5 certified copies of our marriage license to have on hand for various stages of immigration (and for other legal purposes like DL, SS Card, banking name changes, etc.) We kept the "original" certified copy that they sent us as our own.cool.gif

And, I agree with Jim. Our case has been very simple and straightforward all along - no RFEs, no red flags whatsoever (that I can think of.) Yet our I-129F took 4-1/2 months to approve and, so far, my wife's AOS has taken 3-1/2 without any word of transfer to CSC or local interview. The point is that you never know what USCIS will want, so be prepared.

It seems to be a 50-50 chance as to whether you get an interview or not. So, it is always good to prepare for the possibility of one.

My husband's case was transferred to the CSC, and it seemed we were on track to not have an interview. However, it was then transferred back to our local office and an interview scheduled. We also had an uncomplicated case with no RFEs. The interview seemed very much like just a random 'quota' interview. It lasted less than 5 minutes, we were asked for none of the evidence we brought, and they already had the approval letter printed up and dated for us to sign.
