El Nino, an extreme warming of equatorial waters in the Pacific Ocean that wreaks havoc with world weather conditions, has formed and will last into 2007, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said on Wednesday.

The El Nino has already helped make the Atlantic hurricane season milder than expected, said a forecaster for the NOAA.

The NOAA's Climate Prediction Center (CPC) said the El Nino probably will spur warmer-than-average temperatures this winter over western and central Canada and the western and northern United States.

It said El Nino also will cause wetter-than-average conditions in the U.S. Gulf Coast and Florida, and spark dry conditions in the Ohio valley, the Pacific Northwest and most U.S. islands in the tropical Pacific.

El Nino is the conditions for Tucson to get lots of rain this winter!. When El Nina is around it's a dry winter.

We have had the best summer rains in along time! I think it's the most rain in a summer since I have lived here.

If we get a wet winter we will have a great wildflower show in the spring...

NOAA is the same group that predicted we would have a 26 hurricanes this year. Um with 6 of them Major CAT 4 and above. And did it happen? Nope and they keep revising their predictions. And here it is already mid sept--oops okay no major hurricanes in the Atlantic. Okay lets say its El Niño. Which may be true as there is a CAT 5 storm in the Pacific.

i will respect that guy more the day he pays the extra 2cents per kw to convert his houses energy supply to wind power. He has been offered the option by his local power company but is yet to accept...
