I am going to cook her a lobster dinner. In the Philippines the lobsters are good but not quite as good as here. I am thinking of a big salad. (She calls that goats food, but she will have to get used to it). Maybe some green beans in butter and parmesan cheese, and a baked potato. She doesn't drink so some sort of juice or water to go along with it I think.

We're going to make a really southern meal. Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, dumplings, slow cooked green beans, sweet potato casserole, biscuits, with some blackberry cobbler for dessert. And Newcastle in BOTTLES since he can only get it in cans in Canada.

We are then going to have simultaneous heart-attacks.

Or, we might just go with pizza and Newcastle. Which was the first meal we ever had. Totally our idea of romance. :D

My mother is from Louisville. The cooking sounds real familiar to what her mother cooked. Her mother was from New Orleans.

I just wouldn't make this the first meal fresh off their flight... they'll probably be not hungry enough or too tired to appreciate it... I know I had wanted to make a really nice first meal when hubster first came here and then when he moved here, but reality was he'd had enough on the plane and wasn't up for anything really nice. His first night when he moved here, I think we had some pizza. That's his favorite meal anyway... LOL

When he gets off the plane, I'm assuming he'll just want to crash, or eat a little of whatever's in the fridge. I'd take him out the next day or so.

He's the cook, not me, so I am going to take him to a deli and show him what real, Jewish deli food is all about. My mom sent me a bag of bagels and some babka when I was in Brazil, and Rey liked the bagel (although we had no means to heat it and we had no good schmear material around) and loved the babka.

I think he will love it. I'll also have to pick up a few cupcakes so he can finally understand why I'm obsessed with them, and have dreams about them, and have to go to extreme measures to prevent myself from eating them.

I'm in Louisville too. :) He has requested I cook a turkey just like the one he saw that I cooked in a pictures a few years ago. If things keep going as they are, I can probably call this Thanksgiving too.

That would be one great Thanksgiving. Jenny, I hope will arrive here with me about that time. I am going to fly over so we can enter the U.S. together. I used to cook Thanksgiving dinner for my ex and her family. I haven't cooked one since. Maybe I will cook one for Jenny, Sophia and me.

my hubby didn't cook me anything when I got here..

like I mentioned in the other thread he did take me to "In & Out" for a Burger and then for supper he went and got some Chinese Food (which wasn't that great :P) and the best burritos in the whole world

Before I could cook anything for him I had to go through his fridge and freezer and clean everything out :P boy, he had some interesting stuff living in there ... Then we had to go grocery shopping...

I did cook for him before I moved here... the first meal I ever cooked for him was meatloaf and mashed potatoes... he said he couldn't remember having real mashed potaotes before... he was just used to the instant kind....

I made an american cookout - hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, fruitsalad, cole slaw. I even got out a picnic blanket and spread it out on the floor of our living room.

I still remember the first meal he got for me when I went to Egypt - koshari and chicken.

First dinner we had was at a steakhouse that had a secret spice for their steaks. Was very delicious but I was so nervous I couldn't eat it all. First time I never finished a steak before!

so we can call you "cupcakes" then?
