Do they use the address on cover letter or N-400?

Hi, We submitted to the Phoenix lockbox on June 16th and were mailed out the NOA the 22nd and the fingerprint appt notice June 30. We've received neither yet and only know they were sent b/c of receiving USCIS email.

We looked back on the letter and n-400, and while the n-400 address is correct, we noticed our address at the very top of the cover letter has an additional 4 (like too long of a key stroke), so instead of '4930' it reads '44930'. And yes, we double and triple checked everything and somehow missed that (having to watch our 15 month old while doing it doesn't help). :(

We called USCIS to inform them of this, that we are not receiving our mail, and to verify our address in the system but they repeatedly stated nothing could be done before 30 days have elapsed from time of application.

I would have thought they use the address on the application itself instead of cover letter but... So now it looks like we will miss our fingerprint appt and will have to wait until July 16 to call again and inform them again and be put back in a waiting list for an appt again. :(

We would do an online AR-11 but don't know if our address *is* incorrect as they have it in their system and are worried it would confuse things even further.

What would you guys do?

They should go by the application and not the cover letter. I would probably call and ask the 800 number and see if they are able to verify the information for you, and notify them that you are receiving the email notifications but not the actual mail.

Probably it is in the mail somewhere, on their way to you...

Oh, if the address is wrong, then when you go for biometrics you can ask them to correct it... don't know why but I've seen people do that and it works...

Thank you so much for replying!

I called the 800 # twice (last week and today) to tell them we weren't receiving the mail and both times they said we must wait 30 days to do anything. This last time, though, after noticing the discrepancy in addresses, I did ask if we could verify what address they had on file for us but she said they do not have access to that information (?) and we still must wait the 30 days to do any inquiry. Maddening.

Hopefully the mail is just super slow... Do you know if they mail these out from the lockbox location (in our case, Phoenix) or if it comes from DC or...?

Interesting that you can change the address at the biometrics appt as if your address is incorrect how would you even get the biometrics appt notice in the mail to know when to go?

I could be wrong... but I believe that once the Pheonix lockbox receives it, they will forward it to your local office, and they will process all the outgoing mail.

I think the biometrics will be if there are simple typos. I think your address (if they followed the cover letter) is a simple typo. I've seen much worse mistakes in addresses and they were delivered a bit delayed but just fine. USPS is a much more intelligent system than we imagined...

Our local office is SF and since we are in SF... hmm, don't know if the mail would take that long to get to us if the first piece was sent June 22nd.

The 44930 is not a valid address for the street we are on, so I guess it would just get bumped back to USCIS with 'no such address'. I was hoping the USPS would figure it out, if with slight delay.

Thank you for calming me down a little and hope you are right that it's just a minor typo and we don't end up missing our appt b/c of it!
