How did all of you send your AOS packages? Did you staple all the tax transcripts together as they are several pages long? Did you use on big paperclip to keep it all together or several small ones?

Saylin asked me not to staple anything sent to NVC, as thye need to scan each document (the AOS instructions states that we need to staple the relevant documents in order). Though it made sense to staple at least each relevant documents together, if not the full set, I decided to follow advise from experienced, so I just used a big clip.

I did the same for my DS-230, which looks like has been accepted without an issue. But I can't confirm regarding the AOS, as it is yet to be processed. I hope others will give you their feedback on AOS packet.

I used no staples.. No clips.. Nothing double sided other than the W-2s that have printing on the back. I did put a small post--it note to separate the tax transcripts.. Which I had forgotten about when I ran them through a sheet-fed scanner.. I was going through the PDF to make sure everything scanned properly and saw the post it notes.. dough! had to scan them again.

The only thing I clipped was int he IV packages.. I clipped the baggie with my wife's photos to a 8x11 paper..

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

I don't think it really matters - not stappling is only for the convinience of NVC for scanning the documents with ease. Stapling is still fine (they will have to remove it) but helps in removing any confusion if the documents are mixed up. I think I like the idea of using small paper clips for each individual document and the big paper clip for the full set.

Of course we can do nothing about what has already been sent out.

How did all of you send your AOS packages? Did you staple all the tax transcripts together as they are several pages long? Did you use on big paperclip to keep it all together or several small ones?

hello friends........about guideline for assembling documents...this is what mentioned in the USCIS website

General Tips on Assembling Applications for Mailing

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextchannel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextoid=ff053d146a7ee010VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCRD

  • Mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the nature of the submission. Example: ORIGINAL SUBMISSION - BRIEF FOR AN APPEAL - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - etc.
  • Use the appropriate mailing address and mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the form type. Example: I-129; I-130; I-690; I-698, etc.
  • Provide both the receipt notice number and the A-Number as an identifier, if they are available.
  • If the packet is being resubmitted in response to a REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE (RFE), please place the notice requesting the additional evidence/information on the top of the packet. Also, please use the special mailing envelope provided.
  • If evidence is being submitted in support of a previously filed appeal or motion, a cover letter stating "BRIEF FOR APPEAL", etc., should be placed on top of the packet.
  • In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:
    • Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.
    • Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.
    • The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.
    • Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.
    • Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

i have send all my documents using the above said method...

(1) make two hole punches at the top of the documents using the hole punching machine

(2) use ACCO fasteners to hold it together

its available @stapes and office depot

(3) and used colurful tabs @bottom..,,,,,,the tab was written with marker about the type of documents under the tab.....for the next tab move it little left and keep it doing until you reach the left end...and then again start from the right hand side

exmples : marriage certificate

tax copies

birth certificate

etc etc..

i did like that for I-130, I-751 and N-400 and also some friends filing.

no issues till date. and all went smoothly.

I had stapled all my federal tax returns, all my forms, and other documents because I was afraid if someone drops it then everything will be out of order. I didn't have any sort of issue with it.

Just a few questions for you folks :)

I have searched for these but found various answers.

I called NVC yesterday to see if sending a possibly unneeded joint sponsor would delay my case. I have a joint sponsor and all forms are ready to be sent but I currently make above the 125% poverty level requirement and am not sure if I will get approved on my own. The requirement is only met when calculating my current wage anually. My tax transcripts show only a yearly income of 2-3K (for the last 3 years) because I was in school. I just got a $1.00 raise at my job which allowed me to meet the requirement - showing you how borderline my pay is. The NVC rep just stated that I "could send what I saw fit".. not a lot of help - what do you guys think?

I also asked about the blanks on the I-864. She stated that everything must be filled in, have N/A, or 0. I don't want to fill out part 7 because my annual income is higher than the requirement but Im not sure if I should because reading the instructions makes me feel as if everyone that has a joint sponsor should be filling out that section. Did you guys leave it blank? I feel like 0 is misleading.

Also, for my husbands IV package - do you all know how much they check into the 10 year job history. My husband has switched jobs a lot (working at 1 job 3 times within a year) and does not remember the exact months that the changes occurred. Is this an issue, are estimates ok?

Under my husbands school history - he has only had the regular required schooling (no college) - did you all put basic schooling here and if so what did you put for your course of study and degree or diploma.

Thanks so much for your help!

Yes, the NVC operators can not give you that answer. It is the supervisor that reviews the packet that will be able to answer that but we can't get him. Here is my take, as I was in school from 08/2009 through 05/2011. However I had good wages both in 2008 and 2009 (as I worked for 7 months) and low income in 2010, as I worked only in summer. I didn't use a co-sponsor, as I have a good current income (also we were not sure how to fill co-sponsor's income when he filed jointly at the time I sent my AOS - now we know).

The current income (future income) plays a big role (almost 90% - 95%), as NVC is looking into the support you can provide your foreign spouse without making her a liability on the Government. Your past income is needed to make judgement on whether you will be able to sustain the current income in future also. In cases like our (meaning students), it is perfectly alright to have low income in 2009 & 2010 and have a good current annual income (it is what you get now calculated to 12 months - say you get a bi-monthly 2,000, then your current annual wages are 48,000, wven though you started working in June 2011). However we need to explain why our past incomes are less.

Now providing a co-sponsor is good if you are barly crossing 125%, because what NVC is interested is some one more to hold responsible to take care of the immigrant, so that the Government is more safe from having to take care of the immigrant. So the co-sponsor is always safe and never a negative additional requirement. However the co-sponsor must provide all the required documents.

So my advise to you is to go ahead and submit co-sponsor, as you have very low incomes in 2010, 2009 & 2008 and your current income is barly crossing 125%. Just make sure that you gather all the required documents for your co-sponsor.

You should not fill anything in part 7, if you plan not to use any assets (it is optional). There was another doubt on using I-864EZ instead of I-864, so I used I-864 as it is safe and left part 7 blank.

Hope this helps.

Yes it really puts things in perspective. Thank you so much!!
