My fiance just called and received the interview date. I have read others here before posting about the US citizen calling to try and move the interview date up. I know everyone wants their fiance here faster but I am trying to get it move forward as my fiance has a child who will enroll in school. The current interview date will be pushing the start of school.

Can someone tell me if I can call the embassy in Kyiv to try and change the date? Thanks in advance. I am very excited that we at least have an interview date.

What interview date did you get if you don't mind me asking? I'm curious as to how far out the scheduling is lately. Anna will be calling to get her date in a few days, just waiting on one more document to get to her before she's all ready to go.

The interview date is August 5. 31 days from the day she called.

I called them today and they said they have no openings until August 10th and that they do not reschedule interviews if someone cancels. Sounded like some standard answer. Guess they just take an extra break if they don't have a full calendar when someone cancels.

Great news on the interview, congratulations!

So, I called and got the run around. I emailed the same day and today I received a reply saying they can reschedule it for July 25. This is great news.

One question, my fiancee was in the states for 8 or 9 months before. I have sent her a copy of her police record in the states via email(scanned), will they require the original at the interview? If so I need to mail it soon. Thanks.

There is no such thing as a Police Certificate from the United States; we don't need to inform the police of our personal movements unless we have a court order to do so.

And, Police Record usually means a record of criminal activity. What did you send?

Yes, it just said something like she wasn't arrested while she was in the states.

This is what I found in the k-instructions.pdf online and is why I thought this was needed. I can't find anything useful on the www.travel.state.gov site where it says there should be a list of countries where it might be difficult to get a police certificate.

3. POLICE CERTIFICATES: Applicants aged 16 years and older must submit a police certificate from the country of nationality and the country of residence at the time of visa application, if the applicant has resided there for six months or more. (For example, an 18 year old Russian citizen residing in Ukraine must present a police certificate both from Russia and Ukraine).

Fiancée visa applicants must present a police certificate from all countries where they resided for 6 months or more after the age of 16, including the republics of the former USSR.

A police certificate must also be obtained from the police authorities of any place where the applicant has been arrested for any reason, regardless of how long he or she lived there. Police certificates must cover the entire period of

the applicant's residence in any area. A certificate issued by the police authorities where the applicant now resides must be of recent date when presented to the consular officer. The term "police certificate" as used in this paragraph means a certification by appropriate police authorities stating what their records show concerning each applicant, including all arrests, the reasons for the arrests, and the disposition of each case of which there is a record. In Ukraine the certificate IP-1 must be obtained in the oblast centers from the Departments of Information Technology at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The police certificate is valid for ONE YEAR.

All police records issued for visa applicants who have changed their names need to bear all the names applicants have used. These include maiden names and names from previous marriages. If the name was obtained through means other than marriage or divorce, it should be listed on the police certificate as well. Certificates issued solely under the applicant’s current name will not be accepted.

NOTE: Police certificates from certain countries are considered unobtainable. To check the availability of police certificates in other countries, please go to http://www.travel.state.gov . The information is located under VISAS – FEES AND RECIPROCITY TABLES link.

This is what I found in Kansas... http://www.kansas.gov/kbi/criminalhistory/request_certified.shtml

The KBI will certify a record check response for a visa application, an adoption, an application for immigration or a similar action in which a formal validation of record content is required. Certification consists of a letter response with original signature of a Kansas Central Repository supervisor that the record check has been conducted and the results of the check are included in the response. This letter will be notarized with an embossed seal of the Central Repository.

Thanks for any help guys. I am really looking forward to getting the interview completed/approved!

Has anyone's wife or fiancee lived in the US for 6 months or more before they had their interview for visa? If so did you supply a copy of police record from the state she lived in? I understand this is different then what is provided on the police certificate from Ukraine or Russia.

Yes. My fiance lived here for 7 years. We got a background check from our state's Department of Public Safety, just to be on the safe side. Cost something like $20 and took about a week. Our lawyer told us it was unnecessary but we figured it couldn't hurt.

It basically just stated that there was no record of any arrests or convictions in the state. Had a nice stamp on it and pretty letterhead. I don't think they payed any attention to it at the time of the interview (which was in Moscow).

2009/06/19 - 1st NOA 1 (I-129F)

2009/10/07 - NOA 2

2010/01/18 - received passport with visa in the mail

2010/02/05 - embassy calls and asked to return visa for a "correction"

2010/02/09 - fiance returns passport with visa to embassy

2010/03/09 - embassy tells us we are in "administrative review"

2010/09/07 - fiance receives passport back with canceled visa and letter; our petition has been returned to USCIS

2010/11/08 - 2nd NOA 1 (I-129F ROUND 2)

2011/04/19 - service request response - 6 months additional extensive background checks

2011/08/22 - 2nd NOA 2

Why not just email the Kiev Embassy and ask them this question about a police something or other when one lived in the US for more than 6 months.

They will be able to tell you what they will want and not need.

Yes, I have but they have not responded yet. This website has a lot of people that have already experienced various visa issues so I am asking here hoping for a faster response.

elya - This is exactly what this document is. I think it will not be needed also. Thank you for telling me your experience.

Thanks all, I am more at ease about this now.

My wife's interview date is July 25. NVC case closed May 20th. Received interview date May 28th. NVC mailed to embassy in Kiev on June 13th (if this helps with time for anyone else). Wife is going in for Medical Thursday (july 14th).
