She just arrived from the Philipines and I from a different city. Anyway, we could have not been a more perfect fit for each other, so much that she moved in together just one month after we started dating.

I suggest you study the Philippine Culture. In Philippines girls still don't wear shorts in public, being a virgin until getting married is still common.

Me reading she "moved in together just one month after we started dating" throws up a red flag for me.

Just a heads up......

The Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality (YAFS) project 2002 of the University of the Philippines Population Institute reported that the average age for the first sexual intercourse for both men and women is 18 years. (I believe it is 17 years for Americans)

Average age of first marriage is 26 for men and 19 for women.

Premarital sex in the Philippines is more common than most would believe, or choose to reveal.

Does it have the 2 year home residency requirement? That is the issue, not the visa term.

Nope, it doesn't. I used to have J1 back in 2007, it's even written on DS form and ON visa that 2 year rule does not apply....

Are you saying that because YOUR J-1 didn't have the 2-year HRR, that the OP's doesn't? That's specious reasoning.

The OP has stated that the J-1 in question DOES have the 2-year HRR. What you had has no bearing on it. Some J-1's have the 2-year HRR, others don't. This one does. The OP will need to fulfill it or get a waiver in order to immigrate to the US.

I would think 18 to 20 would be a common age to have first sexual experience in PI.

In USA probably for a girl it around age 15 or 16, I belive 1 out 4 teenage girl in USA will have a sexual transmitted disease in their teenage years.

Premarital Sex is common in PI, that's why you see so so many young unwed mothers in Philippines, No such thing as child support or taking care of your kid or getting a divorce, If I grew up in Philippines I am sure I would gotten a few girls pregnant in my younger days.

The beauty of Philippines you can still find girls in their mid 20's who are still pure............

Hello, If its okay and not trying to jack the thread, but have question of similar situation with a friend of my.

Maybe Jim or another can chime in as well...

One of my friend is on a J1 visa as well, coming from the province of Manitoba in Canada which I believe has a 2 year limit to work at home town. Currently she is a resident physician in training at a Maine Hospital. Her program will be done in a year. Her BF is also a resident physician and USC. They were planning to get married, but not sure how this J1 visa will affect them.

I am guessing the question is the same as the original poster. Is there a way for her to get around the J1 Visa limitations? or would she be required to go back to the province of Manitoba and work for 2 years regardless of marital status ?

Thanks!

Look into 2-year HRR waivers for J-1 visas. Whether or not they will be successful depends on who paid for the J-1 and training. Good luck.

My previous post outlined the different bases for getting a waiver of the two home residency rule. There is an additional option available just for physicians. Your friend and her husband should begin their research here:
