Hello all,

This question is about the affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship.

I married my wife in Vietnam, so we don't have any documentation showing joint ownership or property; nor a lease showing join tenancy or common residence; nor do we have join financial resources.

I was thinking of having my US-citizen friend write an affidavit for me; basically saying that he is our friend and that he was at our wedding. Then the affidavit will get public notarized (with all his name, birth, place of birth). Will this affidavit work at USCIS?

Thank you.

to do list:
file i-130, petition for alien relative
get immigrant visa
get ssn card and green card
get employment authorization - not required
file I-751, petition to remove the conditions of residence (before 2nd year expires upon entry)
become a US citizen

Thank you Visajourney!

Yes, it's legitimate proof. We got the best man and maid of honor (our witnesses) to give signed affidavits. Along with photos and any announcements that were put out you'll have a stronger case. Best of luck! I believe yours is a Embassy that likes front loading, or extra proof in the I 130 package. Best of luck,

Bob

Your marriage certificate is proof that you are married. An affidavit should be from someone that knows you as a couple. What you need to show the CO at HCMC is the length and breadth of your relationship. First intro to present day.
