Wow a long wait! I am going to call my Congressman's office in a few days for an update. I do not think they will have any news for me until next Friday.

You really want to get pissy with someone who waited just a hair bit less time than you when dozens of people are getting processed in a matter of a couple of weeks or no more than a month?

You have a point there. The process seems bizarrely random, and that's part of what got on my nerves reading through all these posts about writing your congressmen... the system itself is (quite probably) unfair. The processing times don't appear to be uniform for the same type of application going to the same service center. But it does still bother me that there are ways in which applicants are managing to add to the unfairness. In an ideal world, we would all get our applications done in sequential order, and if that means we all wait 6 months, then that would cause less insanity.

I understand that to you (or anybody past 150 days), it doesn't feel like cutting in line... because there's no doubt that if your file is overdue, it deserves to be completed. But presumably that means that other applications (not just mine, but, for example, the woman who posted a thread because she's heard nothing back for 10 months, despite contacting her congressman) are being bypassed. The craziness of the system isn't your fault. And maybe we're all overestimating the degree to which contacting a congressman can help anyway (I get it if it feels nice to feel like you have some mild degree of personal control in the situation). But at the same time, the two weeks doesn't feel like "a hair bit less time" to me, and I'm guessing it didn't to you either while you were still waiting. Anyway, sorry for being defensive.

Fair enough and I can totally understand the frustration. No worries. :)

People contacting congressman and the like doesn't really bother me. What really bothers me is the systemic cases of people getting approved in obscenely short amounts of time, doubly so for people who are already living together over seas. Barring unusual circumstances, I can't help but think that it wouldn't really matter if theirs took 6 months or more. Sure, they'd prefer it to go faster. However, they aren't separated the entire time by the delays.

A while back there was a drastic change to the way those types of petitions were processed. Until very recently they would have filed those petitions over seas at the nearest consulate and would have bypassed USCIS here in the States all together. Now, all those petitions are getting sent here. I've been thinking that the real cause of the massive delays out of CSC is that they've been processing those petitions at the determent of those filed domestically. Presumably with the goal of trying to maintain that previously speedy service. If true, I find that to be extremely illogical and frustrating.

Especially for those of us whose spouses come from non-VWP countries. It isn't like we could get a visitor's visa and bring our spouse over to wait it out with us. We're stuck. Either we go to them, or we don't see them until the process is over.

What did you find out about the petition for your step daughter? I also filed for my wife and step-daughter in the same packet, but i'm still waiting to get NOA2 for either. I'm hoping they will come this week.

At the NVC phase will we have to pay the AOS fee twice? I know we have to pay the IV bill twice.

No. You just have to pay the AOS ONCE.

Good luck on the rest of your journey!

Exactly! I know that July 12 date it is to keep us who are NOT approved from worrying. They do not know that we know about this website. Without this website we would be ignorant to the truth. Also, by checking the case #'s near our own we have realized that we are getting closer day-by-day.
