I know my plan was to revel in our recent visa approval until next week, however I am puzzled by something. What is the advantage of the beneficiary obtaining a SSN between POE and the wedding? Once the wedding arrives you have to go back and change names for the SSN so why not wait until after the wedding? I keep reading that you should wait 10 days after POE then get the SSN? Maybe some places require a SSN for a marriage license? Beats me.. :bonk: Just curious..

Yes some states do require it, which is why a k1 is issued a number to begin with. Some offices will not let you get your SSN in your married name because they want your name to match what is on your i94. Its really up to you. Even if you get it in your married name you will still need to go back once you have your GC to remove restrictions on it so I personally just chose to get it over with prior to the wedding and I came back with the GC to change my name and remove restrictions :)

Many reasons to get a SSN as soon as possible. And in most cases it only takes about 30 minutes.

Some state may require it to get married

Can't get a Driver License with out it in most states

Difficult to get a bank account without it

Impossible to get a credit score and credit or credit card without it

If you trying to get a professional license then they won't give you one until you get a SS number (Registered Nurse for example)

Everyone in the USA needs a SS Number, it's very important to have, so get it asap

My wife didn't get her SS# until after we were married. I didn't feel like going to the SS office twice. That was in 07 in Illinois. To each their own.
