I received my NOA 2 in the mail today (thank you to all the VJ'ers that helped, way too many to list) and seen that there was an expiration date on it. What needs to be completed before the expiration? I believe the interviewer needs to approve the beneficiary by this date, but I am not sure if I am right. The beneficiary does not need to be in the US by this date right? If the beneficiary gets approved the Visa will have a new expiration date that will supercede the date of the NOA 2 correct?

Congratulations! You have 4 months to get your interview, which is what the expiration means. The embassy can extend that date if they are running late with scheduling the interview. After receiving the Visa the beneficiary will have 6 months to enter the US. After coming into the US you two have 90 days to get married!

If the USCIS set the expiration date is there anything that needs to be sent to them to show the expiration date has been extended or is the expiration date for the embassy only and no more contact is needed with the USCIS if it is extended.

From what I've heard they automatically extend if they need to. The expiration date is to let the embassy know. I've never heard of it expiring on somebody unless the embassy sees red flags with a case. I think once its out of USCIS hands they think they've done their job and don't care until you are at the AOS stage.

Congratulations!!

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number
Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere,and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .
