Things are a bit more expensive here.

If we had legions of poor people who couldn't afford to pay more than 50 cents for lunch, McD would not just sit back and let that market go to waste. It would come up with product offerings for that market at their level of affordability.

Work a whole day for $40? $800/month; $1200/month if you work weekends?

I did the year after high school...of course that was more than a few years ago and I had virtually no expenses either.

Well sure, high school kids would.

I would do it now if I lost my job and we needed the income. I wouldn't like it, but I'd do it if it was necessary.

Yeah me too if I was out of work for a while, my savings were near depletion and there was no government cheese to help me out.

I just texted my cousin and asked her because I was curious. She lives in Indiana (it's cheap there) and is in high school. She works at a tanning salon. She is paid $8.50/hr and gets commission for the tanning products she sells. She said nobody she knows in high school work for less than $8/hr.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

Republican Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has soft-pedaled her opposition to the minimum wage law considerably since 2005, when she was quoted as saying, at a Minnesota State Senate hearing, “Literally, if we took away the minimum wage—if conceivably it was gone—we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level.”

...

In a 2000 survey of 308 academic economists, just under half agreed fully that the minimum wage increases unemployment among “young and unskilled workers.” The rest agreed with that statement with provisos or not at all.

...

“Michele Bachmann’s position is not radical,” says Chris Edwards, director of tax policy at the libertarian Cato Institute. Edwards says high unemployment of teenagers in both booms and recessions is evidence that the minimum wage is above the value of their labor.

maybe its evidence that their parents have spoiled the living C_r_a_p out of them and they are too lazy and too stupid to seek employment at any wage?

I'd turn to a life of crime.

I'm too disorganized to be a good criminal. I'd probably get caught.

Michael: "You know what I can't figure out? How is it that all these stupid neanderthal mafia guys can be so good at crime, and smart guys like us can suck so badly at it." Samir: "We're new to it though."

If people in other countries can manage to scrape by on less than $2 a day, why can't Americans? Time to give up their cell phones and big screen tv's. It's all about sacrifice.

Words of wisdom from the man who defends minimum wage for white people.

All we have to do is make it fiscally unfeasible for businesses to hire illegal immigrants and wages will take care of themselves.
