Since when can you prepay and pick your own interview date for a K-1? (Nigeria)

This is for a friend of mine, who is on the K-1 journey as well.

Their petition has been approved and now they are going on to the interview phase. While I was speaking with my friend, she mentioned they already paid for the visa (N56K ~$350) and were able to choose their own interview date online. Now my husband (then fiance) got his visa in November,2010 so I started to wonder, have the policies changed that much or did someone just take advantage of my friend?

I know things policies change often so can anyone please shed some light on this? Much appreciated!!!

The portal through which people can pay their non-immigrant visa fees does allow one to pay the K1 fee too, I can tell you that. Whether you're actually supposed to do it that way I don't know.

They paid for a visitors visa I think and may actually delay their visa appoinment for a K1. Lagos will tell them when their immigrant visa appointment is ( K1's pay as both so the interview is an immigrant visa interview) The appoiments you can make yourself are visitors and business visas. If they show up for their self scheduled appointment their case won't be scheduled for an interview.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Its very possible and Legal to pay for your K1 visa via GTbank the official bankers for the US embassy. The embassy however is responsible for scheduling the K1 interviews. Its possible to personally schedule the K1 interview online in Monrovia and a few other African countries though Weblink: http://www.gtbank.com/services/banking-services/us-visa-fees-payment.html

Unless this is a new policy as of last week, I have never seen anywhere in this forum where K1 visa interview was set up by an individual and pre-payment made. Even on the Embassy information, it is stated that the fee of $350 for the visa is paid on the day of the interview and the interview is embassy scheduled. It seems your friend has been scammed. From those that just had their interview recently, Packet 4 gives the interview date and information to be brought to the interview.
