gsxra's China Consulate Review dated June 21, 2011 states that he got less than 2 weeks notice for his wife's consulate interview. Is this usual/possible?

Not sure but that is great news for its better sooner than later. Just go prepaired, have all of your paper work in order. Also they might not be busy so this may be the reason why you are given such short notice.

It happens, and did happen to us. We had about three weeks from the time the P4 arrived to the interview date. HOWEVER, we knew at five weeks prior because I had hounded DOS daily looking for an update.

Just to clarify: how did you 'hound' them? By phone? And, they told you the actual interview date 5 weeks out? And then you received the interview date again normally' with your P4 three weeks out?

Armed with helpful information I gathered from this site, I called DOS at 202-663-1225 (press 1 then 0). They told me my file was logged into Guangzhou consulate's system, and when they sent out P3. After Guangzhou receives P3 and processed it, they scheduled an interview date. That's my experience with k-1. I can't tell which petition you filed.

Some people call DOS everyday, some once a week. I gave a week after my fiancee mailed out her P3, then called about once every 2 or 3 days (when my gut tells me to) until I got my interview date. Then I emailed the consulate to confirm. You can send the consulate an email at http://guangzhou.use...t-question.html. I sent an email to them on Thursday morning here, and I got a reply on Sunday night, which is their Monday morning. They confirmed what DOS told me.

They told me that P4 was sent out a week ago, but it wasn't after 8 days from the date they said they sent out P4 was my fiancee able to track her P4 EMS label online :)

Hope that helps :)

another 2 to 3 week notice, this month, as well - specifically for a paper filed CR-1, no EP.

(for June, sorry)

re: yer post:

wife implies CR-1/IR-1

2 to 3 weeks, I will guess is paper case, no EP at NVC, at all.

We received our notice for an interview exactly two weeks before document intake. However, we are DCF so I think the scheduling is different than if it comes from NVC.

And, they told you the actual interview date 5 weeks out? And then you received the interview date again normally' with your P4 three weeks out?

Take our k-1 case for instance, my fiancee received her Packet 3 about 5 days after the consulate logged our case.

Then she received her Packet 4 about 21 days after she mailed her Packet 3. In fact, she just got her Packet 4 today :D

It's 37 days between her mailing Packet 3 to her interview date, and 16 days between her receiving Packet 4 to interview date.

In our case, we had a good idea on our dates by calling DOS and emailing the consulate, and also tracking Packet 4 EMS label. Some VJ members said the consulate did not use the EMS label their fiance(e) returned with their Packet 3, but in our case, our label was used.

I only emailed the consulate once to confirm what DOS told me.

Yikes!

I sent GUZ an email last week requesting the date of our interview. They said that the appointment letter had been mailed out, but wouldn't tell me the day.

I better call DOS tomorrow.

I can just imagine the conversation I'll have to have with my employer " Uhhhh... I'm going to China tommorrow. I don't know when I'll be back."

DoS Hotline knows all.

----

LeonS - I'm sorry, you should 'pin down' yer scenario, as

'appointment date set'

varies by filing type and visa type.

DCF IV, Paper Filing at NVC and K-1s - GUZ IV sets it

EP @ NVC, NVC sets it - you have 25 to 45 days.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'm filing an I-130 in the next few days to begin the CR1 process. Based on your good advice I'm filing a 'front loaded' petition. Next, (again, based on your good advice and maybe future guidance ;-) ), I'll be going the EP route call the way. But, I DO intend on accompanying her to the interview, and need as much notice as possible for the interview date.

ya, you and I touched on this in a prior topic.

timetick to watch.

INTERVIEW DATE SET. and that's it. You'll have 25 to 45 days past that timetick, the actual interview will occur.

It's specific to casefiles having EP at NVC bound for GUZ.

Purely for fun..... as if you were on a game show.... If you had to guess, assuming no RFE's and no unpredicted 'black holes', when would you guess?

Again, I realize that anything/everything can happen and probably will.

If your feeling 'brave" guess earliest, most likely, and latest.
