N-400 July Filers

I had encountered one strange problem. I had an interview on 19th of Oct at Santa Ana. It was at 11 AM. I got there on time, checked in. Got called in at 11:30. The officer was nice and pleasant. He went through my application, checked some stamps on my passport as I have traveled quite a bit for work. He asked me what do I do etc. Went on asking me civic questions and written and reading test. After he was done, he said your I-130's approval was not in the file but you certainly have a green card so your I-485 was approved. He said until that I-130 is not approved, I cannot approve your N-400. He said, it would take a few weeks as the officer who adjudicated your application for I-485 should have approved I-130 before approving I-485 but he did not. He said wait for a few weeks before contacting us again. Later that day, my case status updated to "RFE issued" and today "RFE received and being reviewed. I called USCIS at 5:55 pm and by the time I got to the second level and explained her the problem it was 6:05 pm and she said your N-400 got approved at 6:03 pm which was two minutes ago She said it would take atleast a day for the online status to update and you should expect an oath letter in the mail in the next 14 days.

seriously who would have thought that the N400 interview and the final processing stages could be so prone to complete f#ckups by USCIS? Files that have gone missing, put aside, delayed, half of a file in a service center while the other half is in the field office, issuing RFE's and then saying they received the information when the applicant didn't even send stuff in! and finally an online system that is notoriously inaccurate lol...

going through the US visa process is akin to walking through a minefield

any news Sharky? ... Fourth week coming pretty soon. At the end of the 5th I'll get Infopass to see what's going on, at least that's my plan.

no news Boilermaker, and I'm not expecting any TBH, not before my infopass on Tuesday anyhow. I'm reading a lot of posts on here about people getting oath ceremony dates 4-6 weeks after their interview. Well my interview was 3 weeks yesterday so maybe I am getting over concerned about nothing? Still Lili got hers and she's the closest member I can relate to, being from the same field office, so that just brings the worries back.

I guess I'll just try and forget it for the moment, lol like that's easy eh?

Congratulations Converse 34!! Happy the process is over for you - and great to hear about the ceremony.

BTW, did you apply for your passport before the oath ceremony?

Sat my citizenship test/interview today and all went well - I received and "approved" stamp and now have to wait for the oath letter/date in the mail! Good luck all other July filers!

I called the passport 800 number and made the appointment over the phone about 10 days before for a couple hours after the ceremony. In SF, you could apply for your passport right at the oath ceremony, but it would take the normal or expedited processing time.

We picked up the passport today, 3 days after the ceremony, all done!!

Does anyone know about Rescheduling an Oath???

I got mine oath letter and the date is set on the 10th and i have to be on a plane on the 11th grrrrrrrrrr. my sweet luck.

You can try a hail Mary!

1. See where is the nearest passport agency to you

2. schedule an appointment on the 10th to apply for a passport.

3. once oath is done, go to your appointment and apply for it...

they will produce it same day and you can travel on it.

Else - on the oath letter, you can mail it and request to schedule your oath.
