I heard that's one of the reasons. During my interview I was asked a lot of questions about current relationship, I could not remember some of details about it. So my guess is that they are digging my background or something. How long has it been since your interview?

3 weeks tomorrow Boilermaker. This poster was ADAMANT in his view and said that is what happens when you get processed TOO quickly

I really find it hard to believe that they would go back in to digging through details at the very END of the whole process, if they had something to question they should have done it before now, surely?

I would think they would study the case before any interview for sure....unless that's what second interviews are for. Today was week 3 for me. I remember the IO said I would get a response within 6-10 weeks but usually comes sooner.....just for approval / denial letter i guess. Doesn't count waiting for OC.

   SO EXCITED! We made our infopass appt for Thursday 28th and a couple days ago we updated our address online...not sure if that prompted them to dust the dirt off our file and look at it BUT...today we got an update saying that they already scheduled our oath ceremony and mailed out the notice!

WOO HOO!

So now to cancel the infopass appt, do you think that if we changed our address just like 2 days ago that it would be sent to the right address? Now Im worried we wont get it bc it will go to the old apartment which we have to give up keys next Monday. PLEASE let us get it before Monday!

Aminesbaby, can I ask you if you had your N400 interview before or after your 3/5 yr anniversary date?

Sat my citizenship test/interview today and all went well - I received and "approved" stamp and now have to wait for the oath letter/date in the mail! Good luck all other July filers!

Aminesbaby, can I ask you if you had your N400 interview before or after your 3/5 yr anniversary date?

The interview was almost a month before my 3 year anniversary-Interview Sept 8th, my three year was October 4th. Here is my theory...they can't approve you until sometime AFTER the 3 year, however there is no timeline for them to deny or RFE you. I think if there was something wrong you would have heard about it by now. They are probably just taking their slow sweet time getting around to your file again-why rush when they got other things to do (they clearly are not concerned about our anxiety level).

I truly believe that either updating our address and connecting it to our current case or making an infopass appointment (both meaning somebody would have to touch our case) caused them to take a look at it. Its been almost 2 months since the interview-and I find it strange that there was not even a touch online or anything the entire time until we did both those things.

You might think about an infopass...set it up for whenever and see if your case gets touched before then-if so then just cancel the appt online. It can't hurt.

wise words indeed from Aminesbaby,

I'm beginning to believe that other poster's comments, I think that ALL the people who are waiting got approved TOO early and now our cases are sitting on a big pile labeled "further review or pending" etc and no one can be bothered to go through them quickly... arrgghhhh

My advice is the same, make an infopass appointment and TRY and find out what is happening, I'll be damned if I'm just gonna sit here and blindly wait...

Cardamom could you share your experience with the LA office. I have my interview Monday.

Sorry, I only posted my experience as a new post in the forum - not under this thread (so more people would have access). Included are the questions I was asked etc. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hi all,

Just a quick overview - I went for my citizenship/naturalization test/interview today. My IO was very kind and instructed me not to be nervous. We went through the basic prelims (acknowledging what I'd written in my application, and then had a quick test - six questions, 1 line read, 1 line written out. And then I was approved. I'm now awaiting my citizenship oath date/letter.

One thing that LA folk should note (if you have your interview at 300 North Los Angeles St), is that the security line to get into the building took me about 15 mins, so that I ended up reaching my room only 15 mins before my scheduled time. If you don't have your cell phone, you can get processed through security much more quickly.

Lastly, though I did not need them in the end, I took the copy of my application and all my original docs (incl marriage cert, my hubby's birth cert, etc etc). I only had to show my Perm Res card and my govt issued ID (state ID/driver's license)

I was asked six questions:

1. What did the Declaration of Independence do? (I answered: Declared our Independence from Great Britain)

2. Name one branch of government (I answered: Congress)

3. We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years (I answered: 6)

4. If both the President and Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President? (I answered: the Speaker of the House)

5. How many justices are on the Supreme Court? (I answered: 9)

6. THINK: What is the capital of your state or it could have been What is the capital of the United States (sorry - can't remember which one but def about capitals).

Hope this helps. BTW, the IO asked the questions from a piece of paper and then hand wrote the answers down, before ticking the correct box. They then staple this paper and the two other test papers (the one asking you to write a sentence in English, the other asking you to read a sentence in English out loud) and put them in your file.

Good luck!

So I am sorry for staying away but everyone has been sick here (husband, dad, cat and me). I am resting at home, drinking some chicken broth.

I received the status change on October 24 and the oath letter today. The date is November 22. I really hope everyone else is going to get good news very soon.

We got the oath letter today-that was crazy fast with the update just yesterday afternoon! Its for November 18th, if somebody wouldn't mind updating us please. We also got in the mail another letter today stating that on Oct 24th we contacted them about our case and updating our status...so now Im absolutely sure that since they had to get into our case for that it prompted them to push it on.

well those are re-assuring words Aminesbaby but I'm still skeptical that updating an address or a phone call (you called the 1 800 number to ask about what was happening?) actually meant that they theoretically "picked your case from the pile" and "pushed" it forward. Believe me though I want to believe that...

all I did was talk to a customer service rep which was similar to calling a Dell computer customer service line: absolutely useless and I doubt very much that it has an effect on my case sitting in Seattle field office.

Lili, my infopass is scheduled for next Tuesday. Maybe it won't come to that, but your news has made me feel sick to my stomach now. Please don't take that the wrong way, just you were the only other Seattle field office person that I could relate to, and let's face it at this stage it's all down to each field office and how quickly they process cases..

All I can do is keep waiting, my "time window" is getting narrower by the day as is my patience lol

I am not taking it the wrong way, I totally understand what you mean. Have you tried to get to a level 2 officer over the phone? From what I hear, level 1 cs are useless. Please let me know how your infopass goes. If the IO you get is not much helpful, ask specific questions such as: did the background check goes through? Do I need to submit more paperwork? I am planning to travel overseas and would like to have an estimate on when the oath is, etc.

And who knows maybe you will get some good news before your infopass. *crosses fingers for you*

I had encountered one strange problem. I had an interview on 19th of Oct at Santa Ana. It was at 11 AM. I got there on time, checked in. Got called in at 11:30. The officer was nice and pleasant. He went through my application, checked some stamps on my passport as I have traveled quite a bit for work. He asked me what do I do etc. Went on asking me civic questions and written and reading test. After he was done, he said your I-130's approval was not in the file but you certainly have a green card so your I-485 was approved. He said until that I-130 is not approved, I cannot approve your N-400. He said, it would take a few weeks as the officer who adjudicated your application for I-485 should have approved I-130 before approving I-485 but he did not. He said wait for a few weeks before contacting us again. Later that day, my case status updated to "RFE issued" and today "RFE received and being reviewed. I called USCIS at 5:55 pm and by the time I got to the second level and explained her the problem it was 6:05 pm and she said your N-400 got approved at 6:03 pm which was two minutes ago :) She said it would take atleast a day for the online status to update and you should expect an oath letter in the mail in the next 14 days.
