My fiance will finally arrive in 5 days!!! Hooray!!! But we are both nervous about POE. I have no idea what to tell him. What happens once the plane lands in JFK? Does he go to a special area or does he just follow the crowd to the passport check? What does he need? Just that sealed envelope and his passport? And where do I meet him? Do I have to go to a special area to pick him up or do I have to wait near the baggage claim for him to come out like everyone else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes he will follow the crowd to the passport check, the border officer will examine the contents of the SEALED envelope and ask a few questions. Have him just be calm! If the border officer has no problems they will stamp the passport and give him the I-94 card showing the 90 day duration of visa. If he plans to work have him ask the border officer to stamp the passport for work authorization.

Probably wait for him at the baggage claim area.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

hi there,

I just arrived via JFK yesterday (on 11 Sept).

It was avery simple process. My fiancee was there with me and we followed the non-citizen line. When it is our tune at the counter, passed the I-94 card (white), the sealed envelope to the immigration officer.

He opened the envelope and run through the documentation in less than a minute and guide us to another office. He handed all the documentation to another officer there.

After less than 5 minutes, I received my passport back with the 90 days EAD stamp :) without even asking for it (though the stamp was not exacly CLEAR)

No questions asked whatever.. it was really a breeze for us. So ask your fiancee to relax and SMILE :)

cheers

I went through this with my then fiance and his son last year at JFK and it was just as the others have said. He'll go thru one of the lines for non-citizens, hand in his envelopes and I-94 card (which he filled out himself on the plane as they approached the US), and the CPB officer will process his info.

I remember they also had to have some kind of ID taken at the time... maybe a digital fingerprint and/or retinal scan... it was very quick and we were all very tired!

The officer was really nice. Ours took a little longer because the officer explained he hadn't done a K2 in a while. Then we went to a smaller room off to the left with a high counter at the front and a bunch of chairs. We waited for a few more minutes while they finished processing the paperwork, and got the passports back.

Have your fiance check before he leaves this room to make sure they have stapled the little I-94 card into his passport. Check for the temporary EAD stamp, too, if he wants one.

Yep, I believe you will have to wait for him at the baggage claim. Have a wonderful reunion and best wishes!!
