Frankfurt K1 Visa Approval

Hi all,

A search of 'similar timelines' did not help with this question. David's interview is 9/25... if he plans to travel using his K1 visa during the 2nd week of October, would that be a safe timeframe in your opinion?

The Consulate web site says to expect processing to take 3-5 days... sometimes the German mail system can be slow where he lives. I have to work in some business travel in early October, so trying to coordinate everything is proving to be a challenge.

Any opinions? (ok, you all have opinions, that is clear :P , but what about this???)

Hi Jen,

I don't think anyone can give you a solid answer, but I can tell you that we successfully interviewed in Frankfurt for a CR-1 visa on Sept 11 and were told that we should expect the visa in 2 weeks. Of course this is not the same visa. They also gave us contact information and said if we didn't have it that time frame then we should fax them for a quick response. We are not going to the US until later, but we do need his passport back for travel on Sept 30, so we are trusting that almost 3 weeks will be ok. If your fiance lives near Frankfurt, he could also pick it up to save time. Otherwise they mail it & it must be signed for. Personally I would not try to push the flight date too close or you could end up with more worry, but the end of the 2nd week of October for you is about the time span we banked on.

Hi Jen,

I called the consulat and asked the same question that you are asking right now. You read my post and know that I got the information not to plan anything. But I got at least the information that it normally lasts 5 business days to get the visa. David can ask at the interview if it is possible to pick up the visa in person. Sometimes the officers they yes, sometimes they dont. There are no real rules about it. But it could save some time....Good luck!

Timeline

During the interview I was told it takes about 10 days to receive it by mail.

Since my husband was there with me and we wanted to fly back together the Friday after the interview (interview was on Monday) we asked if we can pick it up and they told us to come back Wednesday at 3:00 pm.

Frankfurt is a three-hours-drive from where I live, but to my USC-husband that was nothing! He loves to speed on the German Autobahn!

If you pick it up you don't even need to go into the Consulate, you just pick it up at the reception area (no need to go through security). But lines are long, be prepared to wait!

Hope this helps,

If you need to book it, I recommend booking it but using a refundable fare.

Have you checked fares lately??? Ridiculous.

We'll take our chances by booking a non-ref.

YAY!

J's booking his monday! It will be about 49 days from now! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO.

30 more days for us  .... just received an email from my soon-to-be stepdaughter: "Daddy is so stressed out. Please tell him to make lists!" The making of lists is not the problem... it's remembering to look at them and keep them updated that's the issue! :P He'll get the important things done. I have every confidence!! My Knight in Shining Armor is coming home. Sigh.
