Moving with Personal objects

Hello! Does anyone have any information on moving with Gold coins, Gold Buillon, Silver & Copper? My hubby is a collector and we have tried calling the u.s. customs toronto pre clearnace area but no one will pick up. I do know if he goes over 10,000 he will have to declare it on a form 105. But can he take his Gold, and coin collection....how would he value it? What he paid for it or the face value. For example he bought a gold coin for $1,200 but the face value is $50.

you might want to check out this link Moving to the United States it's pretty lengthy, but it does talk about gold coins and foreign currency. does he have an appraisal of his collection?? I'm guessing that it might be helpful if not necessary to determine if he's over the $10,000 limit.
