Hi,

I have not posted since the last decade  , but am back for some advice on what to include with my package i'm about to fill out and send. Been happily married and living in the US for the last 7 years and I'm done procrastinating and have picked the 4th of July long weekend to get my ducks in a row and get citizenship. I've got the N-400 printed up and just need to know what i need to add to my package to make this as smooth as its always been when using VJ.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

Hi

I just sent mine in yesterday... didn't want to wait anymore...

OK - although you gained residency based on marriage to a USC (according to your timeline), for the N-400 application, you will need to check in Part II (page 1) A. Lawful permanent resident for at least 5 years. This way it is easier on you and them. Even if you check B based on marriage to a USC, they officer will cross it out and mark A.

All you need is to go over teh checklist document they provided and that should be all!

http://www.uscis.gov/files/article/attachments.pdf

I sent exactly what they requested in this document (but based on marraige to a USC). If you miss something, don't worry, because they will ask you to bring it on your interview day.

Good luck!

That being said, does that mean that I would not need to send the 4 items they request on the basis of marriage application?

1. Evidence that your spouse has been a US citizen for the last 3 years

2. Your current proof of marriage

3. Proof of termination of all prior marriages of your spouse

4. Documents referring to you and your spouse

1. Evidence that your spouse has been a US citizen for the last 3 years

2. Your current proof of marriage

3. Proof of termination of all prior marriages of your spouse

Applying for marriage is a privilege that lets you apply in three rather than five years. In theory at least, you will be a better US citizen is married to one. But you are applying waiting the full five years, not for that three year marriage privilege. USCIS really gets carried away with that privilege requesting all the information you already sent in for your AOS and ROC if your marriage was less than two years old at the time.

This is all you need to send in:

All applicants must send the following 3 items with their N-400 application:

1. A photocopy of both sides of your Permanent Resident Card (formerly known as the Alien Registration Card or “Green Card”).

If you have lost the card, submit a photocopy of the receipt of your Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident

Card; and

2. 2 identical color photographs, with your name and Alien Registration Number (A-Number) written lightly in pencil on the back

of each photo. For details about the photo requirements, see Part 5 of Form M-476, A Guide to Naturalization, and the Form

N-400, Application for Naturalization instructions. If your religion requires you to wear a head covering, your facial features

must still be exposed in the photo for purposes of identification; and

3. A check or money order for the application fee and the biometrics services fee for fingerprinting, as stated in the M-479,

Current Naturalization Fees, enclosure in the Guide. (Applicants 75 years of age or older are exempted from fingerprinting and

the biometrics services fee). Write your A-Number on the back of the check or money order.

Not even sure about item 2, they used their own photo of you now taken at your biometrics appointment, dress accordingly.

You still have to fill out all sections of the N-400 that apply to you, like your spouse/s, but don't require any proof of that. If a section does not apply to you, fill it in with N/A's. They may tell you to bring in your drivers' license or state ID, we did that, but they didn't want to see it at our field office.

Seems they are having a bug recently on bringing in proof that you paid all of your parking ticket fines. Don't request that either, depends upon your IO.
