Hiya folkses! I know some of you are aware of the Canadians in NC group in Raleigh called CanSouth, well the other day I emailed them to find out if there are any plans for a Western NC group, and lo and behold! There's one starting up this very weekend!

Now, I know its late notice, but hey, I just found out myself! If you have nothing else to do on Saturday and would like to meet up with other Canadians in Charlotte (not every immigrant is a member of this board for some strange reason ;) ) here's your chance.

Greetings fellow Canadians!

We are beginning a chapter of the CanSouth group here in Charlotte. CanSouth was first started in the Raleigh area and has grown from just a few families to a considerable following. It is a group that allows fellow Canadians to meet and enjoy one another's friendship. There are no political agendas, no commitments, just an opportunity to socialize and participate in fun activities. Just a few of the events include, Canada Day Picnic, Hurricanes games against Canadian rivals like the Leafs, Oilers, Canadiens, Canucks, or Flames, St. Patrick's Day Pub Night, Christmas festivities...

We are having an Open House on Saturday, September 16th, 2006 at 7:30 PM at our home (1229 Waynewood Drive, Waxhaw, NC 28173). It will be an evening for us to get to know one another and determine what social events we would like to pursue. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served, so come hungry and come casual.

We have a request and we hope that you can help. In order to reach out to other Canadians in the area, if you know someone who would be interested, please forward this email to them.

Please email your response as to whether or not you can attend to Janet and Nick at janet@riehle.net or call our home at 704-243-3944 by September 10th, 2006. Looking forward to seeing you!

Directions to our home:

From Charlotte: From the intersection of I-485 and Providence Road.

1: Start out going SOUTH on PROVIDENCE RD / NC-16. 2.6 miles

2: Turn LEFT onto WEDDINGTON RD / NC-84. 2.3 miles

3: Turn RIGHT onto TWELVE MILE CREEK RD. 1.1 miles

4: Turn LEFT onto NEW TOWN RD. 0.9 miles

5: Turn RIGHT onto CUTHBERTSON RD. 0.7 miles

7: Turn LEFT onto WAYNEWOOD DR. <0.2miles

If you are interested in going on Saturday, or for some other event, please email Janet at the above address to let her know

I'm not sure I can make it this weekend, but I may just try. I think James is working Saturday, but pffffffft on him I should just go without him :P;)

Here's the latest on the CanSouth Charlotte chapter, if anyone is interested.

Greetings All!

Thank you to those fourteen or so fellow Canadians and friends who made it to the “Get Together” on Saturday, September 16th! Since then our numbers have increased to 25 potential members! Check out the attachment with the list of members and their pertinent information. If there are any errors or additions, please let me know.

It was a pleasure to meet you all and to hear your ideas as to what you would like to pursue as a group. Some of the events suggested are as follows:

Everyone was interested in seeing some Carolina Hurricanes games at the RBC Center in Raleigh. Depending on the numbers, it might be feasible to charter a bus for this event. If we can find a weekend game, early in the season, we could possibly tailgate. Many a party has been held in the Hurricanes/NC State parking lot! Obviously, the opposing team would be the Leafs, Canadiens, Oilers, Canucks or Flames. The CanSouth group in Raleigh can help us get the group tickets as they have an account with the Hurricanes.

On the same note, it was suggested that we could do a Bobcats/Raptors game at the new Bobcats arena here in Charlotte.

For cultural events, if a Canadian artist, symphonic, operatic or popular group performs or a novelist or poet comes to Charlotte, it would be fun to organize an evening out.

Special holiday events such as Canada Day, Canadian Thanksgiving, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day, or a Christmas get together. As the group gets larger and we find that we have many children, we could organize a Christmas Party for the kids. Someone may have a favorite bar, restaurant, or pub and wish to organize an evening out for the adults or the ladies may wish to meet for lunch some time.

If anyone is interested in organizing any of these events or has another suggestion, please let me (Janet - email posted above) know. Initially, it would be best to let me know and I can pass on information about any new members to the group. Please take the initiative if you have an event that you wish the group to participate in.

I didn't get to the meet up last weekend because my Aunt stopped by and we just couldn't get there. Coincidently, she's Canadian, (actually, triple citizen of UK, Canada, US) living in Florida, and was on her way up to TO for a visit, and stopped in for a sleep and a cuppa tea.
