Age difference question

My fiance' and I have submitted a K1 visa application. She is from the Phillipines and I am from the US. I have been hearing a little about age difference being an issue with approval. I am 51 and she is 31. I realize this is a 20 year spread, but she is no teenager. I would think that it may be more of an issue if she were younger, say 18-25 and I was 38-45. We are almost 60 days into our wait after NOA1.

What do you VJ'es think? Will this be an issue?

Thanks.

It will never be an issue. My boyfriend has the same age with you. He is 51 too and I'm 28, even younger than your girl. But my visa was approved without any age gap issues. As long you have no problem with all your documents, you will sure be approved! Goodluck...

I have asked a number of times about our age difference US female 40. UK male 25, and everyone seems to say this is not a problem. Can you elaborate? We have an interview in 13 days.

There is no strong cultural bias against this in the US, so everything hinges on whether it's culturally acceptable in the beneficiary's country. The consulate will compare the relationship with local social customary norms. For example, in many predominantly Islamic countries it would be considered very unusual for a man to marry a woman who is older by more than a few years, especially if he's in his 20's and she's approaching or past the end of her child bearing years, since one of the primary reasons for marriage in Islamic culture is to produce children.

In western countries like the UK it's pretty much a non-issue.

I am older than my soon to be ex-husband and yes it was an issue. But it depends on your and her maturity level.

An older female in PI would be very odd.

This case is the norm.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thanks again everyone. I feel really good about things now. Although I suspected it might not be a problem, I thought I would ask.

There does seem to be some differing opinion here in the US regarding younger brides. So far I've heard a lot -- mainly from uninformed and opinionated people. I guess many of you know what I mean. In general, all of the guys would love to be in my position. Most of the women think I'm buying a child bride or don't understand why I don't meet a nice Amerian woman. Oh well, we can't live our lives for the approval of others.

Thanks,

jim

I'm 19 and my fiance is 28. We were approved. Just getting ready for the interview now. I'm sure if there were any problems with age before NOA2 they would have said something.
