Just out of curiousity..... are the portion sizes in American fast food restaurants overseas the same as the portion sizes in domestic fast food restaurants? For instance, I find a large beverage in Canada is the same size as a small in the US. Plus there are no free refills.

The portions are way smaller in the Philippines, and they also sell Mc Spaghetti. No supersize, no free refills.

Exactly.

I don't think that fast food will become as popular in Russia as it is in the US, cause it's just cheaper to cook at home. $1 menu turns in $2 menu in Russia + the difference in salary and you realise that you don't want to waste your money on spending a lot of time in fast food places. Plus there are restaurants with cheaper and better food.

I believe portions are about the same though in Russia and in the USA... When they opened the 1st Subway in my city I was wondering whether they were going to sell the footlongs, and apparently they do! I'm not sure that anybody buys them though.

I disagree. I think fast food will take over the world.

If you don't believe me, look at how the kids are starting to sit around and play video games, text on their phones, and generally just hang out and do nothing. Give it some time... those kids will grow up, have more kids... and the cycle will spiral downhill from there.

It's definitely a downhill spiral. Technology has overwhelmed society, and nobody bothers to figure it out anymore. How many folks are too inept to even replace a light switch, or change an air filter? The world is running out of farmers and mechanics.

Fast food joints, and more cars. I'm telling ya, nothing good is going to come of this. Next thing you know their going to be dressing in fat clothes and going to some twisted Russian version of Walmart. :(

They already have it in Ukraine..."Amctop" (am-store) It is designed to be like an American super center and comes pretty close to being exactly that. Many people of Alla's generation and older HATE it. It is full of "chemical food" but cheap prices

No, smaller. More like Canada, even smaller than Canada. Pottion sizes are specified in grams on menus, though they include the whole meal (meat, vegetabes, potatoes, whatever) in the quoted size. Same with beverages, portion sizes in grams (ml) are quoted on the menu. 200-250gr is a typical soft drink size, 8-10 oz., but that is WITHOUT ice, they do not put ice in drinks unless you ask and then they will likely call the insane asylum to come and take you away.

Definitely the portion sizes in the US are much larger than in the rest of the world. I was just curious as to the fast food counterparts, since I have never been in an American fast food restaurant in another country.

I was speaking of non fast food restaraunts. I rarely go to fast food at all and certainly not when we are in Ukraine or Russia. I do not need to all that way to eat a Big Mac. What I have seen in Ukraine/Russia us that McDonalds is pretty much the same portion wise as here. Sergey likes McDonalds and eats there (too often Alla says) and says it is the same as here. He says Subway is better here, 4 kinds of cheese and they make the sandwiches MUCH faster.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I agree with those that say excerise makes a difference. Alla has to make an effort to walk now, we go for walks several evenings a week but when we were in Ukraine, you HAD to walk nearly everywhere, or at least a considerable distance

RUB food is hardly lowfat, pork, potatoes, onions, mayo... But yes, MUCH less sugar and chemicals. Even RUB pastries are not so sweet as ours, they do not have a taste for so much sugar. I love some of Alla's pastry cooking but many Americans say it is not sweet and too dry.

It's all coming to a bad end. Just give it time.

I think it's worse in the third world. Folks are selling land and heading to the cities, where there is no work, so they sit around all day, and drink away their birthright. Sad stuff.
