Ridiculous Letter From USCIS

Very strange letter - definitely doesn't look like the issuing office knew what they were talking about. I am not sure it would be of any use but you may wish to see if your Congressman or Senator can get involved and 'inquire' on your behalf. While they don't really have much ability to make approvals happen, they can get things moving along the course of action indicated by the paperwork. I know how frustrating it is to sit there and watch others get approved before you (you can check my timeline to see just how well I understand!). The letter you received seems to raise more questions than it answers so you could use that as an 'opener' for asking your representative to get involved - especially since USCIS does not -as was correctly noted - issue visas.

Good luck and I hope you hear some good news soon.

It is quite a vexatious pancake indeed.

It has, however, been noted some way up the page, by both myself and Alcheringa, that the notion of USCIS adjudicating a visa is a perversion of process chronology, and thus I would request you kindly desist from your defeaning restatement of known facts.

It would naturally be useful to hear from someone who has "received this letter and (latterly) their visa" for a report of its position in their overall timeline.

I did not receive that letter but our petition was approved in 58 days and the visa was issued in less time than you have waited for the petition. Hope that helps. Good luck.

THE AVERAGE IS 5 MONTHS MINE TOOK 5 MONTH TO THE DAY IT LOOKS LIKE YOUR'S IS 2WKS PASSED 5 MONTHS YOU SHOULD HEAR SOMTHING SOON YOU CAN CALL THE SERVICE CENTER AND ASK WHAT IS GOING ON

"Your visa is being processed and should be ready within 60 days of this letter." [Dated 06/21/2011]

It has been 162 days since our NOA1. We put in a service request over two weeks ago, on 13 June.

This is unacceptable. VSC are not the slow service center they once were. They're onto late Feb now and almost all Jan filers have been approved. I've checked - there's virtually nobody in January ahead of us on Igor's list.

60 days! This is unbelievable. Has anyone else received this nonsense?

Many thanks for the advice - that sounds like a reasonable and useful way forward.

My fiancee (I'm the Brit) has in fact contacted her congressman already (only a couple of days ago now), but your point about it being an 'opener' could well be true. I'll get her to follow up with the new information. Cheers

We got some very weird form letter after our 5 month service request (CSC) that we would hear about our visa w/in 30 days and would get and answer w/in 60. I took it to mean our NOA2, as it was clearly a stock letter to give them time to find my lost application. I can't remember it exactly. We got the NOA2 about 3 weeks later. (Our lawyer did make a call. Not sure what helped.) The letter made me cry.

It was frustrating, as most of the VJers were coming in at 120 days, at the time; The UK was way behind at about 150; And we were apparently with the slow lady on vacation at something like 170. (Not to mention the difficulty of not being jealous of the people getting them in 30 days!)

This process has been a real strain on our relationship. The stress and roller coaster of emotions is insane.

Thanks, kutakendra - that sheds a little more light on the situation. Very strange indeed.

Well, I think it seems like the best recourse to proceed with Kathryn's plan of action

smells like a form letter, selected by incompetent uscis employee.

If yer so inclined, have the USCitizen petitioner get into local USCIS office via infopass appointment, get it all sussed out there, face to face with immigration officer.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi, we did a service request on June 2 as we were nearing our 6month mark. We then got an e-mail response June 16 stating our application is still in initial review and that we would hear within 60days whether our K1 petition is approved, denied or we would get further instructions, probably in case of a RFE. I was in tears for 2days as I found this absolutely ridiculous and was just really missing Joe. We got our NOA2 the very next week, June 21. Hope this helps and good luck. Marichen

I am tempted to say this is not a real letter. That is to say, it might not actually be from USCIS. Even the Diversity Visa system gets hacked sometimes. Whatever you do, don't send money or personal ID info.

Please quote accurately and provide context for the message. USCIS doesn't process visas. Did you ask a question? To whom? What was the question?

For whatever is worth, "60 days" is government code for "we have no idea, could be tomorrow, could be in X weeks". I did too got something that alluded to the famous 60 days and before I even had time to get fully upset and angry, an approval.
