hello

I am in the middle of aos and everything looks fine but....we didnt apply for a ssn when my I-94 was relevant and when I was single. Now...I dont know what to do because the social security offices wont give me a ssn till I get my greencard. Do I get a temporary greencard after 90 days of applying or I just get a EAD and travel document? I am confused...because if I only get an EAD without a ssn then how can I work? Thanks .

You need the greencard or EAD first before you can get a SSN & then work

YMMV

You seem all sorts of confused.. relax! :)

Just file for AOS (I-485, I-131 (AP) and I-765 (EAD))

The guides here in VJ are awesome and will be a great resource for you!

Your EAD should come in about 60 days or so from filing, and the GC comes when it comes.. It can take as short as 2 months, and maybe as long as 6 months.. Some will have interview, some won't. With your EAD you can apply for a SSN and work. :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png
