Dear All,

As we all know time is against us when completely this K1 process, so during my long NOA2 wait I want to prepare as much information as I can so when I get the beneficary pack from the embassy I have documentation ready.

The excellent K1 visa guides on this site does not give informaiton on what exactly this pack, called ("foreign beneficiary complies required forms" in the K1 flow chart )will consist of, apart from the I-134 Affidavit form.

I am British and my fiance American.

Do I need a police check, can I get this now (I am current ~3 weeks ahead of my estimated NOA2 deadline) or is this too early? How long does this take? Is this what is know in England as a standard CRB check?

Can anyone give me information on medicals? What is the registered physician list like? eg are there loads of doctors around the country I can visit or will it more likely be one in a major city?

Vacinations - am I hopeing!! that the NHS will provide me this information from their database of my medical register? What process do I have to go through to gain this?

If someone can just list exactly what was required of them in this pack then I can try and be super organised :-)

Thanks for you Help everyone

Nadine xxx

You'll need to fill in the forms sent in Packet 3, DS-230 Part I, II, DS-156, DS-156K, DS-157. These can be done on Adobe and in the case of DS-156 on the site itself before generating a PDF document version.

You'll need police certificates for the purpose of submitting to a foreign embassy for any country you've lived in for 6 months or more from the age of 16.

You'll need certified copies of things like birth certs, marriage records (if any). They should be no bother.

Evidence of relationship, evidence of ongoing relationship since filing, such as photos, plane tickets, phone and email records, etc.

Evidence of support, I-134 Affidavit of Support Form. Get the beneficiary copies of W2, tax, bank, letter from work, etc.

Arrange the medical, I think it's usually done near the London embassy by a certain doctor. Get vaccinations in advance, things like MMR, Tetanus, etc. There's a list somewhere.

There's a good guide here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

You can apply for the police certificate here: http://www.acpo.police.uk/NationalPolicing/ACROCriminalRecordsOffice/PoliceCertificates.aspx. It's not the same as a CRB check. It's valid for a year.

You might be able to get your childhood immunisation record from your GP. It depends how old you are really - if you had them pre-computer days like me they may not be available, particularly any you had at school as I understand those records are not kept after your 25th birthday. But you don't need many so it's not too much of a problem to have them done again. My GP is going to do mine.

Good luck.

Get the police check(s) now. You can't get the medical without. You can get the medical as soon as you get a number from NVC and may be able to save a week or two. You also can save the expedite fees.

When we got the medical, it was 3-4 weeks out. I was told by switchboard that packet 4 is sent 2 weeks after medical results, (which they say take 5 days, but are 7) and is independent of packet 3. Not sure if it is totally true, but seems a delay in medical would delay packet 4.

(We got held up at NVC for 2 weeks and almost did it too soon- and were two weeks late coming out of CSC. I guess our luck will change in marriage.)

First port of call should be the London US Embassy page

http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

It has the links to all the forms you need to fill in (and beware - some of the questions might require some digging like the list of all previous visits to the US (month and year)) a link to the doctor's surgery where you will have to have your medical + list of vaccinations etc and a list of all the documents you need to gather for the interview.

Regarding police record they say 10 days (without postage) if you don't do the expedited service.

Hope this helps.

Just to add that London send a letter rather than an actual 'packet' (other embassies/consulates may do, but London doesn't appear to anymore) although it is referred to as 'packet 3'. The letter includes the link mentioned by N&S, which lists for you the documents you need to complete with the necessary pdf files to download and the documents you need to collate prior to interview.

Thank you all so much for your replies, especially the links to police check and embassy websites. I have downloaded all relevent forms to "practise" on, or at least gather information on.

If I could buy you all a drink I would, didnt expect so many replies so quick, wish you all the luck in the world :-) x
