I never actually got my packet 3 letter. I called the state department and they said it was mailed out, but it's been about a month and nadda. I just went ahead and followed all the instructions in the packet 3 pdf and emailed it all in today. Does anyone know if I'll get an email back saying it's been logged and they are sending out packet 4? All I got was the standard automated reply that says no one at this address is going to be replying to your inquiries, etc... I used their MTLxxx and barcode number subject line verbatim with my own info.

What's the next step?

I have been reading that people have been going ahead and submitting the ds-160 form before they receive packet 3 . Is this ok to do?

I submitted it once I got my letter from the NVC stating to do so. This came about 2-3 weeks before the Packet 3 letter, so it was submitted prior to receiving Packet 3. The consulate even notes that this is what should be done, but you will probably need to wait to hear from the NVC with directions to https://ceac.state.gov/.

You could try and fill out the application ahead of time and save it instead of submitting it until you get the letter from the NVC. That would mean that everything could be done ASAP once you have the green light.

Thank you captain!

I emailed NVC and got the response with my Montreal file number and invoice number. I inagin ally y reached DOS and they said packet 3 was sent out November 13th. I haven't gotten it yet tho. I want to be clear that all I need to email for packet 3 is a scanned copy of front page of my passport, the DS-160 confirmation sheet once u submit it, a scanned copy of the checklist.. Is that it? What is the email I send that too? I'm so anxious:/ I also heard there is a new packet 3, is that correct?

Thanks so much, I have been reading different forums so much I have myself stressed out. Lol

I'm a K-1 Visa person, my fiance has his interview Monday, and I've been reading that for a K-1 person you don't need to show an evidence of domicile?

I was going to send in the first page of my bank statement but would prefer not to if possible. Additionally I am using a sponsor for the affidavit of support, and they would also prefer not to have to send in a bank statement if possible to show the evidence of domicile. Last I read on this was in 2011, and so I am unsure if we still have to show evidence or not.

Also, my sponsor had a lawyer prepare his affidavit of support document. She told us to just send in the completed document she prepared, but there are no "supporting documents" attached. Is this okay?

Thanks!

If you mean evidence of Canadian domicile, then your already submitted papers will do. All the instructions are in the packet 4 pdf. If you mean evidence of us citizens domicile you need to prove every last scrap of evidence you have - from Birth Certificates, passports, drivers licences, utilitiy bills, work pay stubs, irs records, etc..

Still no one heard back from Montreal after emailing your packet 3?

You should be getting Packet 3 in the next few days, but if have confirmation that it's already been sent out, you can go online and complete everything now. To make this absolutely clear, all you need to send in is:

  • a copy of the biographic page on your passport (picture page with personal information),
  • the DS-160 confirmation page (save it as a .pdf when you have the option to print it, and print it also for your own records),
  • a copy of the completed and signed checklist (keep the original for your own records)

There is nothing else that needs to be sent in with these items.

The email that you send it to is listed on the instructions letter that you were sent, but is also on the online version of packet 3, complete with instructions on how to format the email. The current packet 3 is via the link that I posted previously, and was updated in October.

Don't be stressed! This part is really straightforward, and quite easy if you follow the steps laid out.

Nothing regarding packet 4 yet. Received the confirmation email, the standard form letter that every email response gets, but nothing beyond that. Not expecting to get it until another week or two, typically 3-6 weeks after the submission of packet 3. Presumably this is because of the order they process emails, from the bottom up, regardless of the status of the case.

Hopeful for movement soon!

It's been two weeks so I just called the DOS and asked if Montreal has logged my packet 3 and they said NO :-( The operator thinks Thanksgiving may have gotten in the way. I'll try back next week I suppose. Has ANYONE who emailed in packet 3 heard back from the consulate yet about packet 4?

That's a negative, ghost rider :( I saw another post saying it takes 3-6 weeks, so I'm trying to hold hope :P
