packet 3 was sent to me on the 20th, so i'm preparing all my forms to send on monday. not waiting for packet 3 since who knows how long it will take.

since it's on the montreal.uconsulate.gov website, i'm going to assume that this checklist http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/visas/pdfs/visa_checklist.pdf is pretty much exactly what i'll be receiving in the mail, correct?

i'm wondering whether i have to check off the things that apply to me, or just leave the form blank and fill out the bottom part, which will show them that i've gathered what's required. if i DO have to check things off, would i leave something like the appointment letter and medical unchecked, since i don't have them yet? or do i check them off to show that i know i will need them?

thanks so much in advance!

This is the page you need to look at to find out what packet 3 says. http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=visas&document=immigrant_visa. Go to the Processing of Approved Fiancé(e) Petitions part at the bottom.

I checked off everything that I required for the interview (even medical and letter which I didn't have at the time) and n/a'd those that I didn't need. Didn't get a RFE, so I assume everything was fine.

That's exactly what I did as well.

Curious as to what you didn't check off. What on the list don't we need for a K-1 visa interview?

Some things that are obviously not needed in our case:

- Adoption decree (s)

- Marriage certificate (s)

for divorce certificate (s) I assume I need to give my fiancee mine. She was never married.

- Court records

- Military records

Evidence of domicile seems silly for a k-1 visa but whatever

- Job offer letter

For k-1 visa does the petitioner need to submit an I-864 or is the I-134 all that is needed?

I assume we check off the appointment letter and the medical even though you can't do them until pkt 4. They really need to fix this due to all the confusion it causes.

Thanks,

what do you use for evidence of domicile? a photocopy of driver's license? or a utility bill?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think evidence of domicile is required for K1. I marked it as n/a.

Oh, maybe we don't need it! It might only be for people whose petitioner is also in Canada, because then they'd have to show that there's actually a home waiting for them in the US.

Also ralyse, how did you address packet 3? I know it's

but did you write anything else, like K-1 VISA or PACKET 3?

I wrote my MTL case # on it as well, but nothing else. and i included a cover letter that again outlined that case number.

I didn't even put any checks on the list, I just signed and dated it :) Although I'm not saying that's the recommended course of action. I guess I was just lazy? Hmm, I wonder why I did that. XD I received Pkt4 without any trouble, though.

And yeah, you don't need evidence of domicile. Like ralyse, I included a cover letter that had my name, case number, and contact information on it.

Ooh, cover letter. That makes sense. Thanks for the tip!

from the PKT 3 instructions on the Montreal website:

Make sure to use your MTL number on all correspondence you return to the Consulate as well as providing us with an email address.

Thanks. I guess one good thing about waiting for packet 3 is getting all the details like that!

Okay, so they're pretty lax with the checklist. Good to know! I'll make sure I've got a cover letter with all my info.

Hello guys,

Thanks for all these tips, it is really helpful. We have just received the NOA 2 and our case was received by Montreal consulate. Packet 3 was not sent to us yet. We have started to prepare it anyway. All the required documents seem to be on their website. However, we can't find the PDF checlist you made reference to in your post. At the moment, the only thing we can find is what they call an appointment checklist and this is not in pdf. I was wondering if someone can post this checklist in PDF, if they still have it. Indeed, I don't think sending the whole package with this checklist :http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/visas/visas/fianc-k-1-visas/appointment-checklist.html would be necessary for just packet 3. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I sent in my Packet 3 last week. They have very recently updated the Montreal web site and it seems the documents are a bit different now. Since the new "appointment checklist" is what they offer now, that's what I printed and sent in with my package. There's no place to sign or date it or anything. I just printed it and put it in with the rest of my documents to show that I had read it (and kept a copy for myself for reference, of course). All the items on it are the same as the old checklist, by the way.

Hope that helps.

The K-1 Visa journey for myself and my two K-2 children:

K-1: NOA1 2011-8-10; NOA2 2012-1-12; Interview 2012-4-24; Visa issued 2012-9-17; POE (Sarnia) 2012-9-26; Wedding! 2012-10-02
AOS: NOA1 2012-11-20; Biometrics 2012-12-14; AP/EAD approved 2013-1-11; Interview 2013-1-31; 2-yr Green cards in hand 2013-2-9 (101 days total)

ROC: NOA1 11-7-14; Biometrics 12-1-14; 10-yr Green cards ordered 4-13-15! (157 days total)

Counting down to naturalization time!
