Good afternoon everyone,

I am a F1 visa holder and applying for AOS. My husband who is a US citizen is the petitioner but the thing is that he recently got accepted to Georgetown University in D.C (we live in NY) and I don’t want him to turn down this opportunity because he worked hard for it and therefore, truly deserves it.

I still have one semester left here in NY but I don’t know if the change of address will be problematic.

Can you please shed the light on this matter?

Many thanks!

If you move, you need to notify USCIS ASAP of your new address so everything can be processed accordingly. Or do you mean you are planning to stay in NY for the last semester while he is in DC?

Hi! Did you sent your AOS papers already? I was in kind of the same situation. I lived in CT and was at school with my F1. My husband got a job in KY, so I withdrew from school and, of course, moved with him to KY. We then applied for my AOS after we were settled in KY, with a new address, bank account, etc. I'm still under AOS pending now. In your case, why don't you look for a school in DC where you can go and finish your degree, and get a new I-20 there, then apply for your AOS. You are gonna want to finish your degree anyway, right? Or you could stay in NY to finish one semester that is left. I thought about doing that, but didn't like the idea of being away from my husband...hehe...Whatever you do, I suggest applying for AOS only after you move with him to DC. You have a few months that school is out anyway, right? Next semester wouldn't start until September? Try applying for some schools there and hopefully they would accept most of your credits and you could still graduate in one semester...

Well, if you applied for AOS already....then all you can do now is notify USCIS of your address change ASAP...They might ask at some point why you moved, and request some kind of evidence...but you have a legitimate reason for moving...not a problem...
