My son will be going to Kosovo in August to take a summer course at the uni in Pristina. Anyone from Kosovo here who can give us some ideas about places he shouldn't miss or general travel in and around Kosovo tips?

I have never been there so I can not speak for myself but I have heard very bad things about Pristina.

My boss recently went there for business and he did not stay more than a few hours, He said the ambiance was not good, he felt like he was gonna get kidnapped or something.

but AGAIN, I have never been there and thats all what I heard about it, maybe he just went to the wrong place.

Hmmm... not what a mom wants to hear! Kidding -- thanks for the reply.

Hopefully someone who is from Kosovo, or who has been there recently can offer some suggestions.

I have not been to Kosovo, but I have been to Albania, which is very similar and right next door. Your son will be fine, as the country has become very stable in recent years. The great news is that Albanians love Americans for our help with the war, so I would not be worried. Like I said, I have not been there, but perhaps these links will be of some help - My link My link

I have heard that Kosovo is generally more beautiful than Albania, since it was part of Yugoslavia, and Albania was not. I hope your son enjoys his time there! I will let you know if my husband tells me any place in particular he thinks would be of interest.

This might be a very late response but in 2011 Kosovo was safe and it was pretty good at all times after war.

You people from Bosnia what the hell are you talking about - kosovo is safer than Chicago @goodyears.

Anyhow I would really like to hear your feedback about of your sons trip.

Timeline

I lived with my husband in Prishtina, Kosovo for 6 weeks in 2011 and visited again in 2012. I felt very safe at all times. In 2011 we had no car so we walked everywhere in Prishtina, even late at night. There was never any problem. I would never feel safe walking through city streets and alleys here in a big USA city. I live near Chicago and I watch the news. In 2012 we had a car so we drove. We visited Prizren and a cave in another town near Prishtina. Everywhere we went the people were friendly, the food good and the coffee fabulous. In Prishtina there are many coffee bars. We especially love beautiful Germia Park. My most wonderful memories are drinking coffee at Germia in the morning or at night and talking with my husband. In the day time we went shopping. There are many places to shop, and many interesting things can be found to buy for reasonable prices. I can't imagine how anyone would feel unsafe there. Any troubles tend to be along the border with Serbia and we didn't go there. We did travel to Albania to the sea coast. My husband is here in the US with me. We have family in Prishtina and several other relatives in other parts of Kosovo. Kosovo is still developing since it is a new nation. It has some growing pains. But Kosovo is a safe place to visit. I can't wait to go back!
