Hi there

just a quick Q, My husband just got the DS230 and he mailed a copy to me to have a look, but it seems from the form I would have to fill it out (I am the beneficary he is petitioner)

Who fills it out, me or my hubby??

Answer would be appreciated so we can get this one away and hopefull y get a complete case!

That is correct it is a form filled out by beneficiary.

If you want the PDF version that you can fill out on computer and the print out.

Go Herehttp://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/forms/forms_1342.html

Also the DS-156 on that page will enter your data into the system and generate the barcoded form.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

becca,

Anyone can fill it out as long as it contains your information and your signature.

It does not matter who fills it out. I filled out my wife's DS 230 and of course she provided me all information of her and her parents, etc. She just signed it. The DS 230 forms should contain correct information and the beneficiary must sign it.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

The DS-156 is not required by the OP if they are doing the CR-1 which according to the timeline and the forum posted in, the OP is.

As has been conveyed by Yodrak and simple_male the form can be completed by anyone but needs the applicants (formerly the beneficiary) signature as it is the actual application for the visa.

ok am confused again... there are 2 parts to the DS230.. do I fill out both of them or just the first part??

Confusion is not good :bonk:

Hi Becca,

I believe that you only fill out part I and send it to the NVC. Part II is filled out and signed at the interview in front of a consular officer..

How many parts did the NVC send you ?, in your case I would have thought that they would have only sent your part I ?

Maybe somebody else can confirm this ?

Goodluck on your journey

yea I think they did only send me one.. well they didnt send it to me, they sent it to my husband in USA. Is that right?? He photocopied it and sent it to me so I could see what he ws filing in.. we first of all thought he had to fill it out, but after asking on VJ

I understood i had to fill it in. So I only have the 1st part but just looked online at a copy of the form and noticed 2 parts!

But I think I am sorted. Fill out part1 and send it to NVC. :) got it!

Thanks much!
